this week and as a result fell
back into fourth place in the
northern Junior "D"
division.
The Hawks dropped an 8-5
verdict to the Braves in
Tavistock, Friday, and then
were clipped 5-2 in Lucan,
Sunday.
Tavistock also beat
Thamesford this week to
move back into the top spot
with 37 points, one more than
Mitchell who split a pair of
games.

the schedule and their lone
contest this week is in
Tavistock, Friday. They
have one more game in

rec centre with Mitchell,

games remaining, the Irish
have seven and Mitchell
eight.
Braves lead early
After spotting Exeter a
powerplay goal at the 4:26
mark of the first period, the
Tavistock Braves roared
back to take a 4-2 lead in the
first and were never headed
as they posted an 8-5 win
over the Hawks, Friday.
The Braves increased
their lead to 6-3 at the end of
the second and matched the
two goals scored by Exeter
in the final frame.
Preston Dearing paced the
Hawks with a two -goal
performance, while chipping
in with singles were Bryan
Baker, Brian Mercer and
Ron Bilcke.
Baker, Doug Brooks and
Dave Couse assisted on a
pair each to lead in that
department and drawing
single assists were Dave
Atthill and Pete Tuckey.
Steve Wells worked bet-
ween the pipes for Exeter
and recorded 39 saves in
addition to the eight shots
which eluded him. Paul
Seeback had 37 stops for the
Braves.
Exeter won the penalty
parade wan seven minors
campared to the five served
by Tavistock. Both teams
scored once with a man
advantage.
Irish get hot
The Lucan Irish scored
their third win of the week as
they skated to a 5-2 triumph
over the Hawks in Lucan,
Sunday. Once again, the
Hawks were doomed by the
powerplay as the Irish
scored three of their tallies
with a man advantage.
Exeter took an early lead
when Brad Taylor converted
a play with BFyan Baker at
the 5:10 mark of the first
However, the Irish scored
a pair in the final eight

added two more in the first
two and half minutes of the
middle frame to take a lead
they never relinquished.

Bantams get first victory
The Exeter bantams
posted their first win in
Shamrock league action this
week, scoring a 3-1 triumph
over Lucan in the regular
triple -header, Wednesday.
The win came after 11
defeats and two ties.
Captain Steve Batten gave
the locals their first goal in
the second period when he
took a pass from Brent
Dawson and skated the
length of the ice to find the
corner of the open net as his
team played a man short.
Mike Tiedeman made it
2-0 later in the period when
he blasted a long slap shot
into the net on a play with
Darren Vandergunst.
LucanwhittJPd the margin
to 2-1 when Rick Emery
finally beat Rick Gilfillan,
but Tiedeman came back
with his second goal on a shot
that deflected off a defen-
der's skate with Steve Gould
picking up the assist.
Gillfillan made several
key saves to keep the visitors
at bay for the balance of the
contest and help preserve
the margin for the team's
first Shamrock win.
The latter was sick when
the team travelled to
Goderich on Saturday, and
backup goalie Marty Francis
suffered a letdown late in the
first period when the home
crew scored three goals in
less than a minute and went
on to a 5-0 win over Exeter.
Francis and his mates got
their act in gear in the final
frame when they held the
Goderich crew scoreless and
missed on several good
scoring opportunities
themselves.
Midgets win two
The Exeter midgets,
despite having trouble
scoring goals in games in
which they carried a margin
in play, came up with two
wins this week to stay one
point ahead of St. Marys for
the Shamrock league
leadership.
Wednesday night, the
locals scored a 5-1 win over
Lucan as they dominated
play.
Dave Underwood paced
the attack with a hat trick
performance while Scott
Pincombe picked up the
other two tallies.
Mike Clark contributed
three assists, while Steve
Prout and Jamie Chaffe
helped out on two each.
Adding single assists were
Dave Hayter, Mark Van-
dergunst and Dennis
McBride.
Steve Glenn notched the
lone Lucan tally with the
assists going to Jeff Liley
and AI . Craig.

third period to break a
deadlock and give Exeter a
2-1 win in a chippy contest.
Dave Underwood scored
the first Exeter goal early in
the game, but the home crew
knotted the count to start
play in the final stanza.
Brintnell heat two
defenders to a loose puck
and shoved it past the goalie
for the winning marker.
Pee wees beaten

this week. Lucan thumped
them 7-4 at the rec centre,
Wednesday, and they bowed
