LATE FLASH - The latest rumour is the possibili- ty of Mark The Bird- Fydrich of the Detriot Tigers attending the Dinner Same question A week ago we asked how long the resurgence of the Toronto Maple Leafs under new coach Mike Nykoluk would last. As this is being written Thursday afternoon. our memones of Wednesday night's game between the Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers is qwte fresh in our memory. In Wednesday's Globe and Mail Nvkoluk said he knew how to keep a super star under control. Last year with Nykoluk as assistant coach with the New York Rangers. Gretsky failed to score any goals and picked up only two assists in games against the Ranger. Well. the new coach may have used tne same methods hi Toronto. but. he sure didn't get the same results Gretzkv fired -two goals. one on a neat breakaway and added an assist. The Leafs with a 3-1 lead after 40•minutes of play allowed the Oilers to score six goals in the third period on only seven shots.
