Storm slows
attendance
Ninety-eight c hildren and
their teachers braved the
weather on Sunday , for
Church School, but at-
tendance at the Church
Service was much less as the
weather had deteriorated
considerably from 9:30 to 11
a .m.
Rev. Keith Brown chose as
his sermon topic "How Wise
Men Worship" based on
Matthew 2: 1-12.
Matthew's Gospel is ihe-
only one to make mention of
the "Wise Men from the
East" and it is believed they
were astrologers and kept
watch for new stars ap-
pearing. They may have
been kings or priests in their
own countries. They were
definitely men of wealth
because of their costly gifts
to the Christ Child.
When they saw the new
star they knew immediately
what it meant and without
hesitation and with no
thought of_ the dangers they
might encounter they set out
to follow the star to find the
Kings of Kings and Lord of
Lords.
Twoyears later their
journey ended ih a house in
Bethlehem where they found
"the young Child with Mary,
His mother, and fell down
and worshipped Him" not
only presenting their gifts
but their lives and their
adoration. Faith; trust,
expediency and hope are
necessary for such worship.
We too must give ourselves
to God in this deep
reverence as did the Magi of
old.
Members were greeted
and welcomed by Don and
Anna Maguire.
UPCOMING: Tomorrow,
Thursday at 9:45 all women
of the community are invited

munion will be celebrated
and Sunday, January 18

Infant Baptism. Parents are

Damages hit $5,650

Four area accidents
Four accidents were in-
vestigated over the past
week by officers of the Lucan
"detachment of the Ontario
Provincial Police with
damages totalling $5,650.
Tuesday at 4:40 p.ni.
vehicles. driven by Robert
George Simpson, London
and Teresa Edginton, RR 4,
Denfield collided on high-
way 4 at the Medway Creek
bridge. Constable D.B.
Stables set damages at
$1,200.
At 6:40 a.m. on New Year's
Day, a vehicle driven by
Karen Fleming, RR 3,
Exeter struck a fence on
Main street in Lucan when a
Revival Centre
New Years service was
conducted by Rev. Ray
Brewster. Joan Cochrane
accompanied herself on her
guitar as she sang "Whisper
Jesus".
Back from Winnipeg,
Robert Holland sang "This is
the Time I Must Sing", Rev.
Brewster read Psalm 12§:5,
then he and Becky Brewster
sang "Tears are a
Language". Lorraine
Armitage, church pianist,
sang "There's a Warm
Family Feeling".
Rev. Brewster ministered
from Isaiah 43: 18-21. As
good as God has been this
past year, we look forward to
God doing greater things. We
need to praise God for past
blessings, while not living in
them God is going to do new
things for us.
We forget troubles of the
past, wrongs of the past, by
making them right, then
walk in unity. We get into
problems looking back to
what life was like before we
became a Christian.
To expect God's miracles
to come we need to make a
commitment to serve God.
These miracles will be God's
new thing in our lives God
promised to us.
Communion was served
at midnight. After the
service a pot luck luncheon
was served in Fellowship
Hall.
The Sunday morning
service opened with Alan
Melanson accompaning
himself ont he piano as he
sang "He Looked Beyond my
Faults".

Christmas cards in a talk to
the Junior Church about
people putting things out
after Christmas. She told
them we should always keep
Jesus in our hearts. Harold
Fletcher played his guitar as
they sang "Faith, Hope and
Charity".
Rev. Ray Brewster
ministered from Luke 8: 22-
25, saying that; although this
has started out to be a
troublesome year caused by
the devil, it is a year of great
opportunity for God. As.
Jesus commanded the waves
to be still God has com-
manded us to preach the
gospel. This boat was on a
troubled sea, just as the
church is on a troubled sea of
the world.
Because the time is oc-
ming when Jesus will return.
the world events are going to
get worse. We have to have
contact with the world we
live in, but not to merge with
it, as then we will sink, and
lose our contact with God.
We need to g'et as close to
God as we can to live as far
from worldly troubles as
possible.
We need to go to church to
stay a Christian. The church
needs to have an atmosphere
of love, worship, praise, and
moving of the Spirit of God.
Sunday evening the ser-
vice was cancelled due to the
bad weather.
UP COMING Events:
January 11, Sunday evening,
at 7 p.m. Rev. Maurie Blair
and the Teen Challenge
Group will minister.
January 13, Tuesday
evening, at 7:30 p.m., the
first Girl's Auxiliary for all
girls ages 6 to 13 will be held
at the church. All girls these
ages are welcome.
