The St. Marys midgets braved the elements to tackle the local squad, three of whom had to get to the rec centre by snowmobile. The locals, in fact, had more trouble getting a team through the snow than the visitors and had to settle for just two lines. The teams failed to settle which is the better as they battled to a 3-3 tie. They share thl lead in the nor- thern division of the Shamrock league with identical records of nine wins, two losses and two ties. Exeter had to battle back from two deficits of two goals to gain the tie. Jeff Rowe then pulled the locals to within one again when he finished off a play with Mark Vandergunst and Scott Pincombe and Rowe notched the equalizer with just under one minute remainingon a play with Mike Clark. The visitors picked up 15 minors and Exeter served nine penalties in the chippy affair. Bantams finally win The Exeter bantams ended .1980 on a winning note, their first of the season, as they skated to a 4-3 win over Aegsall in an exhibition contest, Tuesday. Sean Whiteford, Steve Gould, Scott Lovie and Mike Tiedeman scored for Exeter with the assists going to Calvin Stanlake, Tiedeman, Steve Batten, Gould and • Brent Dawson. Ian Munroe scored a pair for Hensall with Darren Moir picking up the single. On New Year's day, the locals travelled to Watford to compete in the Silver Stick and were ousted by Pt. Edward in a 4-1 verdict. 'Scott Louie scored the lone goal for Exeter, who trailed by only one going into the third, but ran into a rash of penalties and watched their chances disappear. Stop Lucan The Exeter Waxers scored a 3-1 win over Lucan at the rec centre, Sunday, while the atoms followed them with a 1-1 tie. Steve Anderson scored for the atoms with the assist going to Jeff Howe. The goal scorers for the novice were not available. Four members of the novice crew joined the Exeter atoms for their contest when the stormy weather prevented some of the boys frorn getting to the rec centre. Harlen Tinney played part of the game in nets and played a strong game as did the other novice players brought up for the contest. Seniors The January 5th meeting of Exeter Senior Citizens was held at the Legion Hall, Monday with a fair at- tendance. Rev. J. Forsythe installed the new officers. President, Kenneth Johns spoke briefly on the report of the survey which was held by the Senior Advisory Group. Walter McBride was named as representative to the Advisory Group. Happy birthday was sung to members having a bir- thday in January. Euchre and crockinole were played and lunch was served. AREA BANTAM TEAMS PLAY — The Exeter and Hensall bantams hooked up for on ex- hibition contest, Tuesday, that being won 4-3 by Exeter, their first win of the season.
