Through a ('old wind on a dull No-

drove in state on Thursday sfter-

the eleventh Parliament. The Sen-
ate Chamber presented a brilliant
scene. Nearly all the members of
the House of Commons were in their
placer. Having already taken the
oath of allegiance to King George
Fifth, his 1':acellertcy spoke as fol-
lows :-
"When 1 prorogued Parliament
in the month of May last," said
Earl Grey, beginning the address
from the throne, "1 was about com-
pleting the term usually allotted to
the office of Governor-General, but

therefore it is toy great pleasure
again to greet you at the opening
of this new session.

the calamity which has befallen this
country and the whole British Em-
pire, in the demise of our beloved
Sovereign King Edward VII. His
death is mourned, not only by his
subjects the worlu over, but by all
civilized nations, who had learned
to appreciate tho many gifts and
qualities which had earned for hien
the name of Peacemaker, by which
he will bo known in history.
"It. is with great pleasure that I
congratulate you on the ever-grow-
ing prosperity of this favored land.
Trade and commerce are advancing
in all diroctions with rapid strides.
Tho total volume of imports and ex-
ports far exceeds all previous re-
cords and the growth of our indus-

A despatch from Denver, Col.,
says: With one wing tip of his ma -

per, Ralph Johnstone, the brilliant
young aviator, holder of the world's
aitaude record. on Thursday drop-
ped like a plunernet from a height
of five hundred tact into Use en•

field and was instantly killed. When
the spectators reached him his body
lay beneath the engine of the bi-
plane. with the white planes that
had failrl him in nig time of need
wrapped about it like n shroud.
Nearly every bone in his body was
broken. Johnstone had gambled
with death once too often, but he
played the game to the end, fight-
ing coolly and grinds to the last sec-
ond to regain control of his broken
machine. Fresh from his triumphs
at Belmont Park, where he had bro-
ken the world's record for altitude'
with a flight of 9,71.4 feet, Johnstone
attempted to give the thousands of
spectators an extra thrill with his
most daring feat, the spiral glide
which has made the fright aviators
famous. Tho spectators gist their
thrill, but it cost .Johnstone his

From now on no liquor may be

is the view taken by the Ontario

point. Some weeks ago the care-

must be careful in permitting the
consumption of liquor, but they had
no idea that the order meant the
