It was our intention to ask some one to lend us a ladder and a bunch of keys and we would risk our fives by going up in the tower and giving the hands a push. It seems. however, that the recent rains washed into the works and so swelled the woodwork that the machinery can't work. In the winter the heat froth the furnace keeps the clock warm, but what is really needed are glass faces to protect the hands from the ele- ments. -A representative of the Times was accorded the privilege ofgoing through the new plant of the Exe- ter Evaporator Company of Station Street last Frid:ty tend found bu3i- 1103i ill Dili sw•ing with about twenty hands engaged. The applca are =mewed out in. bush=el baskets and placed in receptacles be- side the maohine operators for peel- ing. These machines besides peeling take out the cores and throw the apples into a large box, toaside which other operators sit to pare out the rotten parts. The pared apples aro thrown into wooden draw- ers and then placed in an elevator running to the lop floor underneath which i3 burning sulphur, the fumes of whioh bleach the apples until every part of them is white.
