Death of Saturday, September 14.
claimed Exeter's old resident in the
person of Catherine Patterson. :rel-
ict of the late George Armstrong in
her 95th year. Mrs. Armstrong,
althau;h well advanced in years has
enjoyed fairly .good health. and only
for a short tune ens confined to
her bed. She was born near Entrin-
killen, Tyrone, Ireland in 181.2 and in
1838 nail married to the late Gee.
Armstrong. A year after their mat -
riage (hey came to America and set •
lits in the County of Prince Edward.
After remaining in i'rince Ede ard
for n few )•ears they ;nosed
into a farm north of St. Thomas.
In 1850 they Nettled on a farm in
Osborne, and after teenty•five .years
of active life. they canoe to Exeter
to enjoy a swell -earned rest. Six
years later Mr. Armstrong d:ed ant
since that time Mrs. Armstrong has
resided with her son Irvine. Mrs.
Armstrong wn9 a kind and :arcs,-
' donate mother and %was bels in t.h'
a highest esteem 1 v all %%%Ito knew her.
Of a family of ix, five are left to
mourn her loam : .lames, in Manitoba
John William, of Imlay City. Mich.
1 Mrs. Vance, of Usborn': Irvine. ,of
1 town and Grot;e II. of I'aris. The
funeral took place on Monday, ile-
torment ring in the Exeter crows -
tory. The sympathy of the rommun-
ity is extended to the bereaved rtwl•t-

bec bridge inquest returned ct ver-
dict that they were unable to estalll-
lish the real cause of the collapse,
but according to the proof furnish-

tions were taken for the construc-
tion of the bridge without danger.
- As usual some of the prizes for
stock at the 'Toronto Exhibition
came io our town. In the Shorthorn
Cattle. Mr. II. Smith of Springhur.,t
Stock Farm.- Hay. got 6th for sen-
ior bull calf, 1st dor junior bull calf
1st for cow under tour )ears, 6th for
senior yearling heifer and 3rd for
junior yearling heifer.
-We are indebted to Messrs. N.
Dyer Burden and Arthur Lonr, for
a couple of beautiful pike, twhioh
the geuticmeu captured while on
their fishing and •huntitt; tnip at
Pott Frank last week. They report
an excellent catch for thin time o(
the year, one of ells pike being al-
most three feet long and sehioh they

-A young man named Angus Ford
who had been living near Bhipka, way
arrested at London Wednesday even-
ing of last week by Detective Rider
who had been inforthed that Ford
was wanted on a char,;e of theft
and that a warrant Lad been issued
for Lis arrest. It appears that ford
had been negotiating with 3Lr. C. E.
Hackney for a horse and ,had asked
the latter if he .would. take Iwo
steers as part payment. To this ar-

After waiting a few days and Ford
not putting in an appearance, Mr.
Hackney went in search of his anie
