A burning chimney o t Mr. Thos. Biesett'e house on Gidlev street was the cause of bringing out the fire de- partment Saturday night. The alarm was sounded about 12 o'clock, and in a few minutes willing hands were draw- ing the engine and hose cart to the scene. Everything was got its readi- ness. hut the fire in the chimney had burned iteelf out and it was unneces- sary to turn on the water. Mr. W. H. Harvey, who for some time has been hook -keeper for the flrm of Harvey Bros.. millers. last week resigned his position. It is Mr. Harvey's intention to visit around here for a few weeks, then go to the northwest where he will engage in farming. Since coming to Exeter over a year ago, Mr. Harvey has become one of our most respected citizens, and we will be sorry to lose biro from our midst. We were favored on Monday last with a pleasant call from Mts. J. R. Lamp. of New York. who thirty five Eears ago was numbered as one of xeter's fairest young ladies, Mre. Lamb was a MIs. E•dale and lived with her patents at the north end on the hill near the home of Ed, Mc• Guire. Shortly before leaving Exe- ter she was married to Mr. l.amh, who resided at Rogerville. Mrs. Lamp has resided in New York for the past 20 years and a few weeks ago took a trip to Chicago and Detroit to visit friends and could not resist the temptation to come on to Exeter and visit the scenes of her girlhood days. She found many changes in Exeter since she left jiere ar.d noted the ruins of the dams and mills which were flour- ishing when she lived here. She vi • vidly recalled the days when skating WAS enjoyed on the river near her hotne and how the young men used to clean off the ice and huild huge bon- fires.
