The Trustees of School Section No. ii
will offer for sale by public auction in
Crediton on Friday, December 7tb,

a meeting of all the ratepayers to dis-
cuss the important matter of estab-
lishing a high school department in
connection with our school.

A number of friends of Mr. and
Mrs. John Harmer, who have been
residents of this vicinity for a number
of years, and who intend leaving this
week for their new home in New On-
tario, met at the home of Mr. Richard
Coates on Thursday evening of last
week to bid them farewell and to pre-
sent them with an address and two
beautiful upholstered chairs as a
slight token of the high esteem in
which they are held. As Mr. Harmer's
household goods wore packed ready
for shipment Mr. Coates kindly con.
sented to have the presentation take
place at his home, while Mrs. Coates
and Mrs. Luxton secured the neces-
sary subscriptions. Mr. John Essery
acted as chairman of the evening and
the address was read by Miss Retta
Eseery. The presentation of the
chairs was made by Mr. R. Coates and
Mr. Samuel Skinner. Mr. Harmer
feelingly responded with a few well
chosen remarks, after which speeches
were made by. Mr. Buswell and Mr.
Cambpell. The balance of the evening
was given over to musical selections

A despatch from Toronto announces
that Ralph Connor's new story "The
Doctor" has been secured by the
Family Herald and Weekly Star of
Montreal, for exclusive newspaper
publication. This is a big surprise.
Such stories are seldom sold to news-
papers for months after the book is
issued, hut, the Family Herald is in
a position to pay the price atd land

be congratulated. It is said the open-
ing chapters will be published on
January 2, 1907, 60 as to give all their
subscribers ample time to renew their
subscriptions. In the meantime there

Mr. Robt. Shepherd returned hornet
last week from Brandon, Man., where
he was working during the past sum-
mer.
Robert Elliott left last week for
Brantford, where be has secured a
position with the Oocksbutt Plow
works.
The L. O. L. concert on Monday
night was a successful affair. Mr. W.
J. White, the entertainer, was at his
best, and his numbers were highly
appreciated.
A meeting will be held in Aberdeen
hall, this Thursday evening for the
purpose of organizing a debating so-
ciety. Any person over 18 years is
eligible to join.
Mr. Fd. Shier, who for the past
twenty-two years has been manager,
and leader of the Methodist choir, last
week tendered his resignation. Mr.
Shier in giving up the choir work does
so, thinking that 22 years is long
enough to serge one's apprenticeship,
and wishes to give way to some of the
younger members. During all these Call and
years the work of the choir has been
good, and cuusiderahle regret is felt
at Mr. Shier's resignation. Mrs. Shier
who was also a member of the choir,
has resigned.

Mr. Presley, of Kintore. is the guest
of his daughter, Mrs. A. H. Switzer,

be held at Mt. Pleasant on Dec. 6th
by the Blansbard and Biddulph Sud -
day School association. The purpose
of this session is to enable the teach-
ers and others to see how Sunday
school work is done in different places
Suggestions are offered and discus-
sed and the meetings ;always prove
benefice! to everyone who attends.
