MUNICIPAL AFFAIRS Councillors Creech nd Treble an- nounced after the council meeting last Friday night that they would not reek re-election. Mr. Creech said he WWI not anxious for further honors, while Mr. Treble, who is leader of the band feels that the office interferes with his looking properly after band practice. It is a little too early to say who will offer theroselves for public service. However, Reeve Dobler will again try to land the reeveship, as there are several matters which he wishes to bring before the people and besides it carries with it the honor of County Councillor, It has:been stated that County Warden Hugh Spack- man will make an effort to fill the chief executive's chair next year. Mr. Spackman has filled that office before and for several years has been one of the representatives from tbis division in the County Council. The electron in Ushorne this year promises to be red hot and without any garnishings. The Elimville drain has its friends and opponents and the fight this year will possibly he be- tween the two factions. Reeve Haw- kins will be a candidate again as he feels that he is entitled to another term as the honor of County Coun- cillor goes with the reeveship after this. Then again th.,re are others whose friends would like to see them attend the meetings of the County Council at $3 per day and mileage, besides being at the head of the town- ship council. Mr. Robert Gardiner, the present representative to the County Council is being urged to run, and the names of Michael Fletcher. James Ballantyne, Geo. Moir and other,' have been mentioned for the same office. Councillor Richard Carom has stated that if any one from his ward, the fourth. desires to sit at the council hoard, he will leave the field open to him. It is quite possible that when nomination day comes a long list of names will be entered for the race on Jan. 7th, In Stephen the fight for reeveship promises to be between Messrs. Sweit zer and Willert. who have been the opposing candidates for several years. The nominations will he held on Monday, December. 31st. NOTE AND COMMEN1 When we have a couticil which is trying to do something tor the town, how would it be to return thein by ac- clamation and put the money thug saved into pushing new industries? 1t is not enough that a few good men are interesting themselves in the Knitting Factory. They must be en- ergetic and persevering. but they must also have the co-operation of the citizens generally.
