Mr. Friel Jeckell arrived home on a
visit Monday nignt from Albuquerque,

the Western and Southern states and

ing to their house in Chicago, I11. They
were accompanied home by Mr. Kerr's
sister, Miss Evelyn Kerr, who will
spend a couple of months in the windy
city. -Miss Dina Wood, of London, is
on a visit to friends in and around
Crediton. -Mrs. I. Clements, of Win-
chelsea, accompanied by her niece,
Mrs. J. Dolmen, of Galt, spent Sunday
with her daughter. Mrs. M. Winer. -
Mrs. McEwen, of Toronto, spent Sun-
day at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John
Kerr. -Mr. and Mrs. Bostagick, who
have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gott-
fried Mangum; for some tiule,r'etur'ned
to their home its Wiunipeg Wednes-
day. -Wesley Finkheiner Inas rented
the western portion of Holtzman's
block, and will conduct a grocery and
confectionery store. Wesley is one of
our young men and we wish hint every
success. --The flax still started the sea-
son's threshing this week. -Miss De -
leen Silting land, who has been visiting
at the Royal Hotel, returned to Toron-
to Saturday. -Dr. Haist was in Gode-
r•ich Tuesday on business.- Miss Han-
nah Zwicker and niece, Katie, of Lon-
don, ate visiting Mr. and Mrs. Charles
Zwicker.-Mr. and Mrs. Thompson, of
Toronto, were the guests of Mr. and
Mrs. Jno, Young, for a few days last
week. -Mrs. (Rev.) Damm has been
very ill with typhoid fever the past
week, but we are pleased to state that
she is recovering. -Mrs. Schwarz, of
Port Elgin, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Eilher.-Miss Baird, of Pink -
hill, is visiting at the Methodist par-
sonage. -Mr. and Mrs. Carter have
moved into the dwelling previously oc-

Detroit. who have been camping at
Grand Bend, are the guests of Mrs.
Sarah Bertrand. -Several of our citi-
zens are complaining of having their
wife fences damaged by boys. This is
it shameful act and they should be
punished.- Our Band gave another
concert on Sweitzer's lawn Friday ev-
ening. There were a Large number
present and the hand certainly did
well. -Mr. Herb Eilix't was in i,ondon
fora few days last week,attending the
Old 134))'s re-isnion.-Mr. Ed. Crocker,
of Toronto, wns in the village Sunday,
-The past week has been another of
great excitement to our base ball play-
ers. On Wednesday the boys and
girls had a game resulting in favor of
the boys the score being 9.7. On Fri-
day Dashwood came here to play the
Duffers and were defeated by 18-3. On
MondayIlensall cause and played a
fast game with our "Star's" but were
defeated 7-2. Our team has not been
defeated this summer by a visiting
team. There is some talk of a London
team cooling this week.

Several of our citizens went to Lon-
don this week to attend the Old Iloys'
Reunion. --Miss Beulah Beaver spent
a few days with friends in Detroit last
week. -Mr. and Mrs. Knetchel, of Ber-
lin, are visiting at the home of Mr. S.
Brown. -Mer. Carter, of Ailsa Craig,
has bought out the blacksmith busi-
ness of Wm. Weezle, and will open up
a shop iu the old building, north of
Clark's harness shop. %% a wish him
every success.-Wut. Greenlee bad
masons ,at work last week repairing
his house. -Our threshers are hard at
work. The crop is good this year. -A
large number from our burgh and vi-
cinity were at the Bend on Sunday.
The lake certainly has great attraction
for our young folks this year.- Mrs.
C. 11. ')..wicker left last week for Park-
hill, where she joined ber parents, Mr.
and Mr•s. V. Ratz, and sister, Miss Lis-
zie, on their vacation for Muskoka and
other Northern points. --Mr. Hender-
son is visiting friends in London. -Mr.
and Mrs. Chas. Greb, of Zurich, were
the guest of "mine" host Hill on Sat-
iirdny.--\piss Farrow, of Goderich,haas
been engaged as assistant teacher in
our school. While working on a straw
stack at it threshing on the 11th con.
on Saturday Alfred Williams received
a sunstroke and lies in a very low con-
dition. -The baseball watch between
our boys and Lucan, which was to
have taken place on Friday. was post-
poned on account of the rain. In the
evening our Band gave the first con-
cert of the season and although the
evening was quite damp. rt large num-
ber were in attendance. The Band
rendered several fine selections and
were heart ily apple tided. Bert Clark

and was a posy boy. The Band will
give another concert Friday night.
Hallett: Miss Maty 'lockstep, died
on Wednesday at the age of 74 years.
