The Bishop of London is probably the most industrious of all English prelates, not even excepting the Archbishops. Some idea of what has to bo got through by 1)r. Winning - ton Ingrain may bo gained when it is mentioned that under hien aro four suffragan bishops, two arch- deacons, 560 beneficed clergy, and over 1,000 curates. It Is easy, therefore, to see that the Bishop has a very arduous life; but in business matters there M probably no more methodical man in London than he. Tho Queen is probably fonder of flowers than any other member of the Royal Family. She delights in old-fashioned flower -gardens, and when at her beloved Norfolk home she takes the greatest interest is any alterations made in her gardens. Her Majesty's favorite flowers are Violets and roses, and in order that she may always have an abundance of them over 200 feet of glasshouses at Sandringham are devoted to the cultivation of violets, while there are over 20,000 trees of one kind of rose alone. It is understood in British naval circles that. Admiral Sir John Fisher is about to introduce a reform in tho matter of clothing that is probably only the preliminary step toward the abolition of what has long been one of 'Lick's most burdensome griev- ances, says the London Chronicle. So far the men's clothing has been provided almost entirely at their own cost upon a plan that was ex- lpinined the other day by an official yet the Marine and Naval Clothing r33torc 1)epart►nent, Deptford. "'I'o begin with," ho said, "(he proposed reforms will apply only to trousers. Under the present regula- tions, when ever necessary the cloth is issued to the men, who have ei- ther to make it up themselves or pay another mean for the work. That in itself, of course, is hard enough. When one remembers that the ariny is clothed at the expense of the na- tion, it seems rather ridiculous that the cost of naval clothing should have to be deducted from the men's Pay. "But that. is notthe worst of it. Although there is a regulation pat- tern, such n detail AR the width of the 'bell' of a ,urn's trousers is en- tirely a matter depending upon the taste of Individual captains. Ono officer may prefer that the trousers should he narrow. The result is that a roan transferred to that vrnel fluty have to supply himself with new 'togs,' simply for the sake of a fad- dy officer. And the system results in still greater hardship when you remember that even name ribbons may have to be changed perhaps two or three tinter in a month - transfers are sometimes as frequent --n serious neater, considering that each rit.bon costs ]0(I., though the mon "tight buy it in the shops nt Portsmouth for ed. "1 don't knots that under Admiral Fisher's w•heulo there will be any radical change in the uniforms. The trousers will all be the sane width, and transfer to another ,hip will therefore involve no alteration." Nothing has been heard of the pro- posed (Bengt. in any of the army clothing depart meta and it is therefore believed flint the work will be 'deceit in the hands of contrac- $ tors. As the matter stands at preeent, the men will still have to pay for their uniforms. But the new regu- lation will undoubtedly he a great saving to t mon. The uniform le also to be designed on more "handy" lines, and will therefore be more tight -fitting than the style at present in vogue. 1 CAUSE FOR ALARM.
