The above cut shows the factories
of the Jackson Manufacturing Com-
pany of Clinton who will have a third
one in the picture next year if the
people of Exeter say they want them
here.
As our readers are already aware,
The ,Jackson Mfg. Co. are manufac-
turers of boys clothing, an industry
started by them in Clinton ten yeara
ago. They have made such a success
that they have been unable, to get
enough labor to keep up with the de-
mands for the goods they stake, and
were compelled to start a factory in
Goderich four years ego, which now
employs over tit) people who ,wake'
Boys' Knickers only,
Now they propose starting a third
factory in Exeter to make another
line of boys' clothing if the people .
wish to encourage thein to come here
by giving theta a free building and
free taxes, except for school purposee,
as stated in another column.
The success they have had and the
reputation they enjoy, besides the
members of the firm being personally
known to many- of the people of Exe-
ter. makes us feel quite sure that we
can afford to grant them this re-
quest. 11'e would like to see ,forty
or fifty people in an industry of this
kind as they would circulate a lot of
money in a year, and It would keep
employed our own town girls in place
of them leaving town as many do.
If the Illy -law carries they &will
comrnence immediately #o Install
their machinery and will employ girls
as fast as they can be instructed.
We might say further that one of
the reasons for their great success in
creating such a demand Jor their,
goods is that they have made Boys
Suits and ]toys Odd knickers only and
and by making a specialty of it they
have been able to make it chenper and
hotter than houses in the city which
stake too many lines. under bigger ex-
pense.
The Exeter branch will, like the
Goderich branch. be a specialty (:n
ono particular class.
Will the third factory of the Jack-
son Manufacturing Co. be in Exeter
We hope it will.

The suit brought by Hill & Co, of
Mitchell, against Wilt.ur Martin for
damages was tried before Judge Bar-
ron and a jury at Sti ntford. The Hills
had the contract for the super -struc-
ture of the new bridge at Crediton
East aed on the day of the accident
their teamster had arrived with a load
of boo weighing over two tons. He
left the team standing on the road un-
attended and wentacross to the west
side of the river and .while be was
gone the auto approached from behind
but not closer than 200 feet. The
Defendant blew his horn to attract
attention and then reversed his car.
The Plaintiffs claimed that Martin
by blowing his horrt and reversing his
auto when approaching their team
was guilty of negligence. The team
ran away and one horse vas killedt,
another injured and wagon and har
n(•ss destroyed. The loss was $300
The Jury did not find the Defendan
guilty of the negligence complained o
but found that he should have got
out and tried to catch the runaway
team and they allowed the Plaintiff
$150 damages. Mr. Martin contended
that the teamster was guilty of negli-
gence in leaving the team unattended
and that the accident would not have
happened if he had been there. The
Jury. however, decided against this
view. It %%as a strange decision bot
the farmers of Perth County seem to
have a prejudice against autos. It
in thought that under the circtun-
stanres the Defendant did well in
keeping the damages down to half.
Mr, Martin will probably appeal the
rase to Toronto. It. S. Robertson
C. of Stratford and F. 11. Thompson
(K. C. of Mitchell appeared for the
Plaintiffs and 3. G. Stanbirry, of
Exeter, for the Defendant.
