UIS CHANCE..
IIow the Prime Minister et Great
Britain Made Good.
Opportunity may come through
a lucky occident, but genius shows
in seeing and using it. The ltt.
Hon. H. H. Asquith, now prince
minister of Great Britain, was
bound to distinguish himself soonrr
or later, even though he first be-
came noted through what seemed
mere chance Mr. Stead, in the
Review of Reviews, tells of this
piece of "luck" which paved the
way to fortune.
Mr. Asquith was the junior coun-
sel to Sir Charles Russell, after-
ward Lord Chief Justice, us Lord
Russell of Killowen, in the famous
Parnell commission. For nine
onontlls he was immersed in the in-
tricacies of that celebrated case.
One day, while snatching a hasty
lunch, Sir Charles told Anquith
that he would have to cross-
exainine the next witness.
''This is most absury !" exclaimed
the astonished junior. "Mr. Mac-
Donald is the next witness, and he
is one of the most important. Of
course you will cross-examine
hint '?"
"No," replied Sir Charles. "I
am tired. You will do it well en-
ough."
It was no use to protest. As-
quith was dismayed. He was total-
ly unprepared. MacDonald was
supposed to be a shrewd, intelligent diseases arising from diseased Kid-
Scotchman, who would prove more
than a match for the ablest cross-
examisi r. .. _
When lair" Asquith rose in the
court he was at his wit's end. By
good fortune, he put a question
which was answered by the witness
in a supremely silly fashion. Mr.
Asquith saw at once that lie could
play his fish with good results. Ho
did so, and the process was one
of the most brilliant display of
skill ever witnessed at the bar.
Poor Mr. !MacDonald was turned
inside out. and field up to a scoff-
ing world, from which ho gained the
title of "Simple Sinion."
iIr. Asquith that day established
a reputation throughout the na-
tion. He had seized his chance and
made use of it.

" I never used anything that gave me such satisfaction as Zam-Buk.
I had a patch of eczema on my ankle, which had been there for ever
twenty years. Sometimes, also, the disease would break out un my
shoulders. I had taken solution of arsenic, had applied various oint-
ments, and tried all sorts of things to obtain a cure, but all in vain.
1 was advised to give Zam-Buk atrial, and as I ant a firm believer in
Naturc's remedies, I did so. From first applying it I saw it was
altogether different to the ordinary ointments and embrocations, and it
soon began to show signs of clearing away the eczema on my ankle.
This was so gratifyirig, that I persevered for some time with it, ar.d I
a:n glad to say it had the desired result. I am now cured of the
disease "which defied every other treatment for twenty years.
" This is not the only direction in which I have proved the merits of
Zam-Buk. I suffered for a long time from piles, and I found a perfect
vire for this painful ailment in Zarn-Buk. Zam-I3uk soothes the pain,
relieves the congested veins, and so restores thcsltlasticity to the tissues
that the piles gradually but surely dfsappers."

London Illube. Lord ldusthery

that he never suffered from insom-

Bishop's formula was very simple.
If lie felt drowsy he started to write

was wide awake. On the other
hand if he wanted hlefp all he had
to do it'as to start to read a sermon.
Then sleep came in a few seconds.
