Mr. i'eter Lamont, the popular and
well-known Reeve of flay Township,

at the opening of the County Coun-
cil at Goderiob, on Tuesday of last
week- Mr. Lamont has been Reeve
of ,flay Township for ten years, hav-
ing to fi;ht elections only three
times, and each time came out stron-
ger than before. It is needless to
say that the affairs of the munici-
pality have always been :conducted
in n ousiness like manner during his
long term, and ewe will expect that
this year's County Council will give
a good account of itself, under the
leadership of Mr. Lamont. Some day
in the near future Peter will .become
a candidate for parliamentary bon-
present.

Your correspondent of last week
seems to have got it wrong conception
of the subject of debate at the clubs
last meeting when he talks about
Tariff Reform vs. Free Trade. The
subject for debate was: resolved that
the farmer receives a greater benefit
from the tariff as it now stands than
the manufacturer.

Elimville old boy, is spending a few

of this world's goods. Mr. Bray
owns about 1000 acres of choice land
in the west.

The annual meeting of the direc-
tors rind shareholders of the St.
Mary's, Kirkton, and Exeter Tele-
phone Company was held on Saturday
afternoon last, in Aberdeen )hall,
Kirkton. The company is on n good
financial basis and satisfaction was
the keynote of 'the meeting, and al-
though the financial report was
somewhat behind. M'e are assured of
a surplus over and aioove expenses of
some $E1.600 nett a dividen:l of 5 per
cent will be allowed on the shares
of the company on March 31st 1909.
The shareholders also authorized the
directors to issue ponds to the ex-
tent of $60 per mile for new con-
struction.
