`1.111: NEST.
n•joyThe only drawback to Jimmy's en -
jos ment
tuent of his two weeks in Cedar,
stile was his father's order that he
should not ploy with the Bradley
boy. The Bradley buy, who lived
in a tuutble-down house a hundred
yards up the road, was just about
Jimmy's age, and no other boy of
ten lived within half a mile.
"And he knows all about every-
thing, papa," said Jimmy.
"fie knows too much," said
papa, grimly. "He knows Bunt•,
things 1'd rather you didn't learn,
Jitnlny."
Jimmy meant to obey, but it was
hard to resist the continual tempta-
tion. One day, as always happens,
the temptation seemed stronger
than ever. Jimmy took his air -rifle
and loitered duwn the road, tel
ling himself at each step that he
would not go any farther, but al-
ways going on slowly, until, all of
n sudden, there he was at tho Brad-
ley house, and the Bradley boy
sitting on the fence. He jumped
down at sight of Jimmy.
"Hello!" ho said. There was
something unpleasant in his voice,
but Jimmy continued to advance.
Then the eyes of the Bradley boy
fell upon the air -rifle, and his tone
changed. "Say," he cried, "how'd
you likt to hunt rabbits l"
Rabbits) Jimmy's eyes glowed.
In this new country, with woods
and narrow ravines everywhere, to
bunt rabbits would be glorious.
Jimmy forgot all about not playing
midi the Bradley boy.
"Come on," said he.
So Jimmy followed. Presently
they entered a ravine. Pretty soon
the Bradley boy stopped and bend-
ing down, pointed to where, on a
bush, hung a big, round, grayish -
white ball.
"That'.; the rabbit's nest," he
whispered. "Shoot into it. I'll go
choad a way's and head 'ern back
if you miss 'em."
Jimmy, obeying orders, waited
until the boy had gone on perhaps
fifty yards, and then he took careful
aim and fired. Tho shot buzzed
right through the nest. Hastily
slipping in another shot, Jimmy
waited for the rabbits to come out.
Something carne out—but not rab-
bits! Hornets! Jimmy had had no
acquaintance with hornets, but as
soon as they appeared he knew by
instinct that he had better get
away. Still clinging to his gun,
and slapping wildly with his free
hand, he tore down the ravine un-
til a clear space let him climb out,
and the insulted hornets returned
home. One of Jimmy's eyes was
fast swelling shut, his left hand had
four stings, and altogether he was
a badly used up little boy. Far off
danced anti whooped the 13radley
boy.
"Did you hit 'em 1" he shouted,
in glee.
Jimmy, angry and smarting, his
eyes burning with tears he would
not let fall, found the road and
ran home. While his mother put
en witchhasel and comforted him,
he told her the story.
"Daddy said ho knew too much,
an' he does," Jimmy ended.
"And yet," said Jiminy's mother,
"ho doesn't know very pouch if he
doesn't know enough to bo kind."

COUNTING BY MECHANISM.
Marvellous) Apparatus In the Bank
et Englund.
A remarkable machine has been
installed for experimental purpos-
es in the counting -house of the
Bank of Englund. It is the inven-
tion of a Swedish engineer. Tho
apparatus counts and sorts money
into paper tubes or bags at the rate
OF 72,000 coins an hour. 1n the
Bank of England fourteen expert
cashiers, working all day long, aro
able to count only $50,000 in email
silver coins. The new machine will
do so in a fifth of the time.
Tho apparatus is worked by elec-
tricity, and performs its task in an
interesting way. A great bag of
mixed coins is first poured into a
receptacle at the rear of the ma-
chine, and the operator takes his
stand in front of it. The movement
c.c a lever brings up a heaping tray-
ful of several hundred coins, which
are tipped over by mechanical ac-
tion. They fall upon a polished me-
tal plate. This is tilted downward
and broken up by raised metal
rules into exactly a hundred
squares, which may be so altered in
size that any desired coin, slipping
into them, is held firmly in its place.
As the coins fall upon the plate,
mechnni:;m hidden beneath it caus-
ed it to move rapidly to and fro
with a sieve -like motion. The re-
sult is that. should it be arranged
to abstract sixpencees from a heap
of larger coins. nil the bigger coins
which fell upon the moving plate
are in the space of a few seconds
"sifted" off and return to their ori-
ginal receptacle, while in each of
the hundred squats lies a sixpenny
piece. By mechanism even more in-
hrnioue the hundred coins which
ave been caught on the plate trav-
el through rnctal channels into
poper tubes. and are stacked, wit h -
cut the ehence of error, in twen-
ties, forties or sixties.

They are a Powerful Nervine.—
Dyspepsia causes derangement of
the nervous system, and nervous
debility onee engendered is difficult
to deal with. There are many testi-

this disorder, showing that they
never fail to produce good results.
By giving proper tone to the diges-

Dysentery corrodes the intestines

bringing about dangerous condi-

D. Kellogg's Dysentery Cordial

further ravages restores them to

By the Schaffer system, when a

It is a curious fact that while
English persons rush abroad when
they art' in poor health, it is to
England thut royal invalids in other
countries turn for a renewal of
strength.
The Kaiserin has a firm belief in
the recuperatise power of the air
t f the east coast of England, while
the Kaiser owes much to Highcliffe,
evhero ho stayed for several weeks
a few months ago.
The (.Town Prince of Sweden, who
lately had a severe attack of mea-
sles; is now in England to see what
English air can do for him. He and
the Crown Princess and their two
baby suns spent a few days in Lon-
don with their relatives, and then
left for Bagshot, where they will
stay for some time.
King Alfonso found his visit to
England very beneficial and de-
clares that it was also helpful to
the baby Prince of the Anstrias,
so the Spanish King and Queen with
their two sons, will arrive in Eng-
land in September and go to the
Isle of Wight.
The unfortunate Queen Amelia,
of Portugal, who is suffering from
nervous breakdown and a severe
throat trouble, will arrive soon and
go to the country bongo of her mo-
ther, the Countess of Paris, where
it is hoped the quiet and the fine air
w ill restore her to health.
Queen Maud, of Norway. thinks
that England does wonders for little
I'rince Olaf, and she would spend
most of her time there, as she loves
the air and surroundings of Wind -
ser, were it not that the Norwegi-
ans are less amenable than the
Spanish. and cling to the tradition
that a King and Queen should stay
in their own country. So if Queen
Maud visits England she will have
t., leave her husband behind.
