A WINGHAM BARBER DROWNS. W Ingham, Juue20-John Ritchie. a barber, of this place, who carne here a short time ago from Brussels: was drowned In the Maitland River yester- day about noon. Ile went in swim- ming near the bridge and while half way acroee the river, became suddenly exhausted arid sank. Harry Angus went to the rescue, but had all he could do to save himself, as the drowning mans clutch rendered him almost helpleea. Ritchie was brought to short shortly after sinking, hut all efforts at resus- citatto:t failed. This makes the third drowning at thle spot within two years. ercrossl•as1 cards. A St. Marys correspondent writing to the London Free Press has the follow- ing ;-The St. Marys and Western On- tario Railway aompanY propose petit- ioning the council of the City of Strat- ford for the issue of a street railway franchise for 25 years. They engage to secure the charter as the Stratford Railway Company by order of the lieu- tenant -governor -in -council, followed by u special act of the Ontario Legislature at the next session. It 1s claimed that the St. Marys and W. O. have bonuses Government and municipal, for about 510,000 a utile for an intended line be- tween St. Marys and Exeter. and have hooding arrangements for the construc- tion of the Stratford street railway system ae well ae the line frons Strat- ford to Exeter and thence to Lake Ilur- on. 1t ie proposed to build an electric line from Stratford to St. Marys, also a Junction point at or near Nicola Mills at the Juncture of the Avon and Thames, about 2% miles from St. Marys corpora- t:on limits, w Exeter, and to a point westerly on Lake Huron. An hourly service Is to be given between Stratford and St. Marys, and a two-hour service to Exeter. The company propose to use Niagara power on their system. taking it front the elty station for their city system and for outlying tines, as arranged by the hydro -electric power commission. Forty-seven years ago Eden Church was dedicated to the worship of God, and ever since has been the centre of rel'gious Influence and power In the community. But with the changes that take place many of these churches that in early days were planted within .1 mile or two of each other have had to he clamed, becau re of the smallness of the r'ottgrcgatione and the scarcity of ministers, and Eden is one of them.
