Miss Mary Jardine -Thomson
Dramatic Soprano
Auspices of the Lvdies, Trivitt Me-
tuorial Church.
Miss Thomson is one of the finest
sopranos appearing before the public
today. She will he heard in old Folk
songs in costume.
Tess is what the Brantford paper says
o Mina Jardine -Thomson :-'The chief
ar.ist on the program was Miss Mary
Jardine -Thomson of Toronto, and she
gave great satisfaction. Possessed of a
rearming personality and a very sym-
pathetic .soprano voice, her group of
old
English folk -lure songs were im-
mensely enjoyed. In a most becoming
old 1760 costume she sang 'Young
Itiehard," 'Nobody Coming to marry
Me," 'The Blue 'Kerchief," 'Keys of
Heaven," and 'Great Grandmother" -a
dainty reflection certatrtly, and very
daintily sung. in the second part of the
program Miss Jardlne-Thomson ap-
peared In hoopsklrt costume. and look-
ed surprisirngly well too. A numb'r of
the 'soma our mothers sang" were
very sweetly rendered, and the clever
artiste had to respond to two or three
vociferous encores. This is Miss Jar-
dh:e-Thomao:r's first appearance In
Brentford, but it le to he sincereiy
hoped that it will not be the last. Sne
is a drantati% soprano o! much ability."
MINISTERIAL ASSOCIATION
MEETING.
IMPORTANT RESOLUTION PASSED.
The monthly meeting of the South Hu-
ron Ministerial Association assembled
on Monday afternoon in the School
Room of the Trivitt Memorial Church
the President, Rev. Colin Fletcher pre-
sidia:. A large number of the breth-
ren were present. The subject which
elle! el much discussion was on "The
Lord's Day." There was a unity of
thnu_ht upon the subject, participated
in by ail brethren. After the )nesting
ttte 1"":+.t'a•1 was most kindly enter-
tained to luncheon at the rectbry by
the Rey. Mr. and Mre. Collins. The as-
soclatlon eepreescd their deep appreci-
ation for the gracious hospltall,y ex-
te,idei by their host and hostese. The
following 1s the resolution re "The
Lord's Day."-
\Ve, the members o. the South Huron
Ministerial Association, In conference as
sembled, alter due deliberation, resolve,
- 'That more prayerful thought should
be given In rc-gard to the better keep-
ing of 'The Lord's Day", both ars a day
of rest and of veerahip, and that a
larger preparation for its holy keep -
Ing should be made. 'Lest we forget".
We would therefore suggest that the
late ahoppin3 on Saturday nights 1*
discontinued. and If feasible both mer-
chants and people corse Go a frank un-
derstandlas, and that Friday evening
be the open night, when all trading
could be dole, that places of business
he closed on Saturday evening -at least
by 11) o'clock. and delivery at ()o'clock,
hence all p'rson• can have full oppor
tunny to prepare for 'Tile Lord's Day".
We believe that such a change would
not only he la keeping with the senti-
ment of the Holy Scriptures •and the
spirit of the Lord's Day. but would also
snake for a wider patriotism. because
a. wide open Sunday results in labor,
and labor Seven days every week re-
sults in physical and moral degencra-
110::. hence national decay must inevit-
ably follow. Further more we be-
lieve that 1f we as 'churches and rhrls-
tlan people do not then take our stand
for the better guarding of 'The Lord's
Day," as a day of rest, then trade and
labor agitations will lead us in this
pressing service. God has given us a
rich heritage In this Canada col ours.
the half has not beNi (told. Let us lay
her fou:tdations de:p and build strongly
that we may have a natlon "Where
God is the Lord."
