DEATH OF JOHN BRODERICK.— It
was sad news to many here to learn

the respect of all. He had many warm
personal friends in Exeter, who greatly

Lodge, Exeter. and was 71 years of

crowded with ladies eager to procure
the many good things on sale. A lun-
cheon was served and a happy time
was spent socially. in the evening the
attendance was large and the program
was of a particularly interesting na-
ture, end every number was heartily ap-
plauded. the rector, Rev. Collins. Met-
ing as chairman In his usual happy
manner. Following are those who took
part ;—Mrs. Illllittgs, Messrs. F. Hee-
tor and Tom. Carling each rendering

a hearty encore. The entertainment

mont issued at Washington shows the
total amount expended on p r hase and
construction to Oct. 30, 1209, as
$181,281,071.84. This is practically
one-half of the present authorized is-
sue. Authority has been given for bond
lapses amounting to $375,200,080. The
actual Issue to the first of last month
has been #114,631,980. From the sale
of these bonds #87,309,594.83 has been
realiicd. Deducting the proceeds of
bond sale. from the total expenditure
there remains #93,921,477.01, which
:has been peat out of the general fund
of the Treasury and is reimbursable
from further bond sales if such a course
is deemed necessary or desirable. And
the repert signlflcacitly adds "the more
costly work of constructing darns and
locks is yet to come."
