bowlers. consisting of Messrs. Ileaman
Davis, Snell and Collins; and Taman,
Sweet, Taylor and Dickson, drove over
to Grantor„ each rink playing 3 games
with the Granton bowlers, resulting in
a tie, in both games and point..
Mr Alex. Stewart received word last
week of the death of his uncle at Spok-
ane, Wash. ltoy Davie was crushed to
dealt, under fifty tons of clay which fell
from the roof of a tunnel on several of
the workmen. Deceased was a former
resident of Seaforth.
Mrs. Russell, who came here front Sag-
inaw to visit her sIstei, \ire. Caarles
Iiiriey, was taken quite 111 last week
and has since been in a very precarious
condition, suffering from an intestinal
stoppage. lfer husband was Imntediat-
clv sent for and he arrived the latter
part of the week, but Mrs. Mussell has
not In the least Improved and. her weak
condition will not wartaet the risk
of an operation.

Death in all Its grimness-rto :natter
under what circumstances -carries with
it more or less bitterness and pain, but
when the visitation conies with an un-
expected suddenness, that hitterness and
pain are all the more intensified, and
the etenn,unity I shocked with the sud-
dennevs of the event. It was so last
week in the case of Mrs. N. Dyer [Jur-
don, and when the news spread on Fri-
day it •seated almost incredible. De-
ceased had been In her usual health un -
t11 Thursday evening and though not
feeling very well made no particular
complaint, hut during the night It was
necessary to summon medical aid and
before morning dawned she was dead,
Heart trouble being the cause. Truly,
"In the midst of life we are In death."
Mrs. Ilurdon war the eldest daughter
of Mr. Jame:( Jeckell of town and was
a native of England, having been born
at Ridgefield, Durham County, in the
year 186u, conseuuently she was in her
49th year. Twenty-two years later she,,
carte to Canada, first snaking her home
here with her aunt, Mrs. Samuel Old -
ley, now of Duluth, Minn. Some little
time after arriving here she formed the
acquaintance of her now bereft husband
and in the year 1889 they were married.
They continued to reside here and with
the exception of a few years spent ht
Ridgetowu E_eter has been their home
ever since. Being possessed of a lov-
able nature many indeed are those who
can teatity to her kindness of heart ant
her sudden demise brought saddnees to
a very large circle of friends. Besides
the 'renewing husband she leaves to
mourn her death five sons -Dyer of
Buffalo, George, Gerald, Et ick and Join
at home -together wall 5 brothers and 5
sisters--:.i.y of Kingston, Ont.; llaigh
of Portlanl, Oitgoti; James E. of Mont-
real; Fled of Albncrquerque, New Mex-
ico; Tom of Poi t Iluron, Mich.; Mrs.
II. Gidiey, town; Mrs. Viney, London,
Eng.; Mrs. O'Itouke, Kingston, Eng.:
Mrs. .frKee, London, Ont., and Mrs. J.
ilence of Buffalo. N. Y. Tne funeral
which was private took place on Mon-
day, her remains being first take'( to
the Trivttt Memorial church for service
thence to the Exeter cemetery for inter-
ment. The numerous floral tributes
evidenced the esteem In which deceased
was held and the sympathy felt for the
tercaved relatives.
