Ole EXETER, to ..ut..orize the bor-
rowing of the Hum of $•32000.00 far
Water Works Purposes.
WHEREAS it is desirable 111 the
public interests that the Corporation of
Ute Village of Exeter should acquire,
co.:struct, operate and maintain a sys-
tem of water works within the said
municipality for fire protection and
other purposes,
AND WHEREAS an agreement has
been entered le:to between the said cor-
poration and James N. Howard for the
purchase, (eubjcct to the approval of the
ratepayers ot said Village) of that part
of the river bed and banks of the Aux
Sable River, known as the 57111 property
and being all that part of Lot number
Nineteen, in the First Concession of the
Township of Ueborne (now Exeter) own-
ed by tl:e said Janes N. Howard for
the price or sum of $1700.00.
• AND WHEREAS 1113 advisable to pur
ctaasc said Ifoward property and to con-
struct and maintain a dam and puinp-
Ing station thereon and to erect a 'd: alet•

location in the said village and to
lay water mains connecting said pump-
ing stenion and stand pipe and along
Maui street in the said village and to

AND WHEREAS 1' has been estitnate3
that it will require the sum of $220'10.01
to purchase said property, erect slid
dam. pumping station and atand pipe
and to lay said water ntahta and equip
said water existent.
AND WHEREAS It la necessary for

whole rateable property of the said vil-
lage of Exeter according to the last re-

$573503.00.
AND WHEREAS the existing deben-
ture debt of the said 'lllage, exclusive
ct local improvement debenture debt se-
cured by special assessments therefor
amounts to the sum of $12884.24 and
no part of the principal or Interest there-
of Is in arrears,
Therefore the Municipal Council of the
Corporation of the Village of Exeter en-
acts as follows: -
1. It shall be liwtul tor the Reeve
of the said Village of Ezeter to borrow
On the credit of the said corporation of
the Village of Exeter the sunt of
$22000.00 for 11;e purp ones herelnhe-
fore act forth and for that p urpose to
issue debentures of the said mwhirlpallly
to the amount of $22000.00 in aunts of
not less than $100 each and such de-
benture, shall be signed by the iteeve
of the said corporation for the time
being and counteralgned by the Treas-
urer for the time be'ng of the raid Cor-
poration and duly sealed with the Cote
iterate seal thereof, which seal the Clerk
tar the time being of said Corporation
is hereby authorize,! and directed to at-

2. The said debentures shall be dated
upon the date of the Issue thereof, and
shall bear Interest at the rate of Five
per cent. per annum from the date of

Wir•ghani. Dec. 8. -The large tannery
and gleee factory here, owned by W. D.
Pringle, was completely destroyed by
fire shortly. after one o'clock this morn-
ing The origin of the fire 1s unknown,
but tie endlarisr» is suspected, as the
stables belonging to the glove factory
ware set on fire a few days ago. The
flaiilea ltad gained great headway be-
fore they were discovered, and despite
all efforts ,nothing was saved. • The
nuliding and contents are a total loss.

On Friday evening the base -ball
teatn from Duucrief, called "The
Greysteads," came here to play our
"Stara" a game of ball. A large crowd
was iu attendance and it was quite
plain that the interest in base -ball is
not diminishing in the least. The vis-
iting team was a strong one and it
looked rather blue for our lads. Our
team had three men, Young, Kerr and
McCue, who were used up with sore
hands, but after they got in the heat
of the game, they evidently forgot
their injuries and worked like Tro-
jans. Cne feature of the game mar-
red the sport, and that was the um-
pire. His decisions were rank, but,
owing to the fact that he was obliged
to use a crutch to walk, he was unable
to see balls which came near the foul
line. Another time, an umpire who
can walk with both feet should be se-
lected. The following was the line-up

King's heavy drives into the field at
the right time and place were the
means of letting in the boys and start-
ing the merry-go-round. Teddy ruade
some good catches and Art. Boltz-
mann held down the second hag to
perfection. McIntosh, the heavy-
weight of the visiting team, was un-
able to understand King's curves, oth-
erwise the hall would have disappear-
ed into the blue vault of the sky. The
game throughout was a good one and
was a treat to the fans. Our boys in-
tend playing in Ailsa Craig on Wed•
nesday.

with friends here.- Mr. Ail is Brenner
has given his dwelling a fresh coat of
paint, which add; greatly to its ap-
pearance. -Several from here attend-
ed the Children's Day exercises on the
loth con. on 'Sunday. -What might
have proven to tie a disastrous fire
happened on Friday in the dwelling of
Mr. David Rettschen, but, being not-
iced in time, was extinguished before
gaining )such headway. It i:a sup-
posed to have started from a spark
from the chimney. Had it not been
noticed in time doubtless the whole
building, which is a frame structure,
would have fallen a prey to the de-
vouring flames. -Mr. Tobias Guenther
received the sad news last week of the
death of his only sister, which sad
event occurred at her home a short
distance from the city of Buffalo. Mr.
Guenther left to attend the funeral,
accompanied by his son, Henry, re-
turning here on Friday evening. -The
masons have almost com(►leted the
mason work on the foundation of Mr.
Henry Guenther's barn.-MasterLloyd

tives near Bayfield. -Mr. F. Baer in-
tends erecting a atahle on the rear ret
his lot. --Mrs. D. Bettachen :and child-
ren are this week visiting fiends in
Crediton. --Mr. Felix Wild tells us he
has a field of fall wheat which upon
measuring some stalks, he found to be
0 feet 2 inches in length. --Mrs. ('am•

visiting Mr. and Mrs. Felix Wild.
