Hereafter, by an amendment of the
crininal code, the carrying of a revol-
ver, or other concealed weapon will be
punished with imprisonment. Hitherto a
fine was the penalty. (Jut this has nev-
er been generally or strictly enforced,
except where there has been a special
reason, the law , as been inactive. A
concealed weapon is a danger alike to
'the person possesring It and to tea
community at large. The evil should be
stetted, but a stere threat of imprison -
anent will not be enough to do it, ruse

THE EXETER COUNCIL
The second sittings of the Court of
Revision for the V1llag.' of Exeter was
held in the Town Hall on Friday, June
18th. 1909. The members present were
Chairmen McCallum.. Messrs. Johns, Lu-
ker and Carling. The minutes of the
meeting held May 28th were read ane
app.o.el. There being no further busi-
ness to bring before the Court the Court
of Revision for 1909 was closed on mo-
tion of Johns and Luker.
The council met at the close of the
blurt. Absent Councillor Neaman. The
minute.► of the meetit,ga held May 21,
29, June 5, 7, were read and app roved.
A report of the Fence Viewers regard-
ing line fence between R. Gidley. James
Creech and I. Artmetrong was read. the
same being referred beck for other in-
dtormat!on on station of Carling and
Johns. -Carried.
The reeve gave a report as regards the
terms and conditions as agreed with J.
N. Howard. The sante was accepted by
The council on motion of Carling and
Luker. -Carried.
The clerk was inatructed to secure F.
W. Farncomb to take levels of the new
aide walks on matlou of Carling and
Jahns.-Carried.

ed under an arca. Miss Minnie Hill
acted as bridesmaid and Mr. Scott as-
sisted his brother, the groom. Mr. and
Mrs. Scott lett for Windsor on Friday
where he has a good situation and
where they will stake their future home

DO AWAY WITII BRIDGE.
The Roads and Bridges Committee of
the Huron County Council met in Exeter
on Monday to let a contract for the
building of a big bridge between Stan-
ley and Goderich townships, and also
to examine and decide upon the building
of another bridge at Sodom, or the clos-
ing upof the water way (here. The latter
was decided upon and one of the present
,fridges, the old wooden one. will be
taken away and the road filled an.
HO. FOR LAKE ERIE.
Wingharn Lodge, A. le. & A. M., No.
286, will run a Masonic excursion to
Port Stanley, on Wednesday, July ltit,
via Grand Trunk and Pere Marquette
Railways. Port Stanley 1s the "Coney
Island of Western Ontario," and is a
popular place to apend a holiday. The
committee has arranged for a good
day's amusement, including excursions
on Lake Erie on the palatial Steel
Steamer, "Lakeside" of Cleveland. Ohio
Special train leaves Exeter at 9.15 a.ln'
good for two days and the return fare
is $1.10. Everybody come and enjoy a

The school picnic held at Friday last
was a decided success. There were
sports acid amusements of all kinds and
everyone availed themselves of the op-
portunity te have an enjoyable time. An
interesting feature of the afternoon was
the presentat:on to Miss Miners, who la

and crescent brooch. Miss Miners, al-
though taken by surprise. replied in a
very able manner.

largely attended. The sermons were In-
teresting and (repressive. The subjects
were -In the morning, "Be not con-
founded unto this world" and in the
evening. "Whatch ye therefore, quit ye

dled these subjects. and no doubt left
a lasting impression on the hearers. He
alio sang a very flee solo in an ex-
cellent manner. -Rev. Fair will preach
hie farewell sermon here next Sunday.

June 1711., when his daughter. Miss Ed
aa, was married to Mr. Arthur King,
the G. T. It. agent nere. The ceremony
was performed by Rev. Frank Powell of
Chesley, assisted by Rev. Smith of lien
salt, and was witnessed by about 25
friends. The house was beautifully de-
corated for the occasion with palms,
ferns and cut flowers, and the bride
and groom took their places before a
beautiful bank of terns. A dainty lun-
cheon was served after the ceremony,
and at 4.50 sir. and Mrs King left for
a two -weeks' trip down the St. Law-
rence, after which they will reside in
Hensall. Guests were present from Tor-
onto, Oakville, Port Arthur, Klneardlt:e
and C iesley.

home after spending a few days with

tle Simpson returned home after a vis-
it in Biddulph--The sad news was re-
ceived here Sunday morning of Earn-
est Simpson's death. He had been
Principal of the High School in Mid-
land, Muskoka. We extend our deep-
est sympathy to the relatives. -Mrs.
Carpenter of Detroit is visiting her
daughter, Mrs. Perry Bice. --Mrs. Pat-
ton attended the funeral of her moth-
er on Sunday. -Miss Maria Lewis and
