LETrEIt FROM TIFF WEST
lialgo:t:e, Feb. 15, Ott
To ye Editors of the Ezet• r A,lyocate,
Dear S1:e,-In renewing my subacrlp-
tion to your valuable paper for 1(1011 I
thought it my duty to write you a sitor•t
letter, which might prove interesting If
not instructive to Advocate readers.
Reviewing the past year I night say
the weather front the spring to the fall
was extre'nely favora'ale to the pro-
duction of good crops ; warm weatner and
frequent showers caused tine harvest to
be earlier than usual, which appeared t0
be nothing leas than providential, fol-
lowing tho frozen crop of 1007. The
crop of 1908 wan marketed early, the
prices being good and the fact that many
had obligations resting on them, which
were contracted the year before, the
money circulated in good Western style,
for about two months Collectio;:s and
rest: sales ecetucd to be the order
Ute day. Atter a time people realize01d
their money was spent. Although not
complaining of hard times, their dr.
cuntstances having been greatly improv-
ed, but still left with a small working
capital. This caused a cautious and
economical feeling to spread abroad
which answers for the noncirculatton of
money during the winter months. Ilusl-
ness in general has been unusually quiet.
This financial stringency during the past
eighteen months, to many -minds, will
have very beneficial effects on this
western country, even if some do not re -
rover their former financial position.
Hut everything, Mr. Editor, points to a
very busy summer, financial Institutions
are Lccoming more liberal, loan :ompan-
les are seeking Investments; building op-
erations an,l real estate Is on the move.
This year prornlsces to be the banner for
railway constructioit in the west. Prep-
aration,' are being trade for a large In-
flux of immigration this spring, and our
American cousins across the border are
alive to this fact that Western Canada
offers the bent inducements to farmers
and investors that can be found on the
continent. I would be unmindful of the
district in which I live, it I did not say
that good inducements are offered In our
nttdst. Good land suitable for mixed farm
ing, close to markets, good railway facil-
ities, schools and churches -ht fact
every cotivenieh'c necessary, lands un-
der cultivation or unbroken, ranging In
price all the way from $1.5 to $25 per
acre. The county surroundlnlf llalgonie
on the main line of the C. P. R. offer
good inducements to intending purchas-
era, Regina city being only 17 miles dis-
tant, where produce of all kinds com-
mand a high price. Another feature in
this part of the province is Inc plentiful
supply of water and the quality of ean.e.
many having never tailing springs.
There is also another feature that of
success in cultivated grasses, red and
white and white clover, ran be grown
without difficulty, these varieties rot
manning in the ground ear years. Be-
fore concluding my boosting, as some
eastern people may call 11. 1 wish to re-
torto the whiter weather here. This one
was extremely fine until Christmas,
when it betaine colder. Up to that time
building operations were not impeded by
the cold weather. Since then the mercury
hovered around between tee 10 and 20
mark ; for twn weeks it registered su
below on an average. while one morn-
ing it showed ee To show that to ex-
perience this is not so bad as to anti--
ipate it, this weather docs not stop the
lovers of Ite-akating and curling. One
good feature in the eVestern cold weat-
her Is tee suonhine met the stillness 01
a cold day. This winter has been note -
able for being free from storms. There
has not been a blizzard -like day this
winter.
I would not be unmindful, Mr. Editor,
In concluding, to pay a tribute to my
native town. I have watched with pleas
ure the steady but eubatantial progress
of Exeter. being Interested In municipal
work here. I never tall to read the min-
utes of your council board meetings,
arid note the atm of your representatives
in trying to better the now well-conduct-
ed and health -preserving town, of whirl;
you may well tic proud. In concluding

pecially do I congratulate ye Editore-
