FOR C. P. R. RAILWAY.
At a large puede sleeting held in the

motion of F. W. Gladmau and T. F3,

$10,000 to the St. Marys and Wcetern

favor of it.
The matter wag pretty thoroughly dis-

Graham and ltice of £t. Marys and the
engineer, Mr. Ilyde; and although many
citieens had previously considered $10,-
unt. 100 much, the Information they re-
eelved speedily !cd them to conclude that
It was not an unresonable sum, and the
general opittiot( is that the by-law will
carry without great difficulty.
Itecve McCallum was voted to the chair
and he explained the object of the meet-
ing. The council, he said, had met the
St. Marys gentlemen earlier in the even -
Ing to see whether a lesser sum, say
r?:,,000. would not do, and to discuss
other details. Now he wished a full die

Mr. Graham was then called on. Ile
reviewed the history of Use company,
steting that a number of Exeter men
were appointed provlelonal directors, but
having dropped out St. Slarys men were
appointed in their places. They had
already spent $400,e00 on the road

to Exeter and heavier west. The com-
pany had mu nlcliral aid In the part
built to the e_tent oe 680,('tm. They had
paid their Will and had a little left.
They were not asking as muni west of

centre of the town and complete the
whole by Sept. 1911.
Mr. Rice said they were not asking a
cent too mu^h. It was Impossible to fl -
elute the scheme On a leaser basis from

to be favorably considered it was neces-
sary that they grant $1.01,0. He did not
want to urge unduly as H was not ab-
solutely necessary to come to Exeter, but
wished to give all the Information pos-
sible and then It Exeter wanted the road
they should page the by-law.

future. Ile would like to know where
it was got e; west. but was of the opin-

went to Godc;14.1i 1t would not go

rest only $733.82 a year for 20 years
that was alright. It It is not worth
that to Exeter 1t is not worth murn. It
would give better c•on:,action east and

grant. Would eke to see it chcap^r, but
thought they were not aeking too much.
The Company would be foolish to build
for us at a loss to themselves. They
are good hustler's 1110.1 and w, unnuld
be fair with them, and not turn down
a proposition whicl. is to our adva:,tage.
The construction work at Exeter would
font $75,000 and that money would he
spent here. We would get Un , 1 111.1,),1

would of neceeelty be on the level, but
as the station would he near the Main
street the trains would run slowly or
a by-law could be passed to regulate the
speed across the streets.
Considerable discussion took place as
to where tee elation would be located.
Within floe yards of tie Town Hall was
as definite information as could be hid
at present. The terms of payment were
also discussed.
