Exeter Council I Normal Entrance Exams.
The Council of the Village of Exeter
met in the Town 1141, on Friday, Aug.
7th. The members all present. Min-
utes of meeting held July 17th read
and approved.
Mr. Hugh Oke asked the Council to
open a ditch around the corner oppos-
ite his property. Referred to commit-
tee.
Mr. W. Walker asked the Council to
open the ditch on Main St. north to
allow the surface water to get away
which he claimed was soaking through
his cellar. Referred to committee...
Mr. F. W. Madman representing
the Cemetery- Board interviewed the
Council in regard the placing of a new
fence in front of the cemetery. The
board he stated had cotne to the con-
clusion that it would be the most econ-
omical in the long run to erect an iron
fence with post set in cement. Plans
and estimates were laid before the
Council for their consideration.
Knight--Hea►nan-That the action of
the Cemetery Board be approved of,
and they are hereby authorized to pro-
ceed with the ordering and erection of
the sante. An amendment Ly A. E.
Enke that whereas the cost of the
sante avrndd be in the neighborhood of
between 7 and 8 hundred dollars and
that we get an estimate of expendi-
ture for the year before taking any
action. The motion of Knight was
declared Carried. -
A petition signed by O. F. Hooper,
John Parson, Mrs. .Ann Snell and
others asking that a suitable tile drain
be constructed along Carling St. from
Gidley St. Swath to the creek. Refer -

Four rinks of Goderich bowlers were
hete Tuesday and played nine games
with the Exeter bowlers with the re-
sult that Exeter finished :31 up. the
visitors were a fine lot of fellows and
the games were tnost enjoyable. Three
of the Goderich rinks drove to Hensall
tot a game in the afternoon.

De:till-It now becomes our sad
duty to chronicle the death of our
highly esteemed friend Mrs. Geo. Har-
tle, who died at St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, on Aug. 10th. 31rs. Hartle
was of a quietand nailing disposition
and highly respected by all who knew
her. She leaves to mourn her loss
three children, Lizzie and Ilenry at
home and Mrs, Antal Gollen. The
funeral on %Vednesday- was largely at-
tended, the remains being interred in
Grand Bend cemetery.
