Mrs Dempsey Dcad.
After a lingering illness following
an operation for gall -stones the death
occurred in Toronto on July 27th of
Mary Essery. beloved wife of Andrew
Dempsey. formerly of Exeter. She
was in her Wird year. Last spring she
underwent the operation but never re-
covered and the end came gradually
but surely from that time. She was

ten years ago the family moved from
Exeter to Toronto. Deceased was a
sister of Mr. Samuel and Mr. John
Essery of Osborne, the funeral taking
Eplace from the latter's residence to the
xeter cemetery on Wednesday. The
husband and six daughters survive:
Mrs. John G. Smale of California; Mrs.
Cliff. Sturdy of Lucan; Mrs. Daltry
and Misses Gertie, Alma and Lnly of
Toronto. The sympathy of the com-
munity is extended to the bereaved.

their uncle, J. 13. Hodgins last week, -
Miss Vena Sherritt, who has been
staying with her sister, Mrs. J. L.
Antos of Brinsley, spent Saturday and

right merrily on Wednesday afternoon
at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J.
Turner --"Sundown "-the occasion be-
ing the marriage of their daughter,
Miss Theresa, to Mr. Wm. \Vhite-
side, of Stephen Township. The bride
was attended by her sister, Miidred,
and Miss Nary Thompson, of Port
Huron, while Mt•. W. Lovie and John
Turner assisted the groom. with Miss
Durr and Master Harold Turner as
maid of honor and page, respectively.
The wedding march was played by
Miss Era Ifarvey, of Parkhill, while
the bridal party took their places on
the verandah, which was prettily de-
corated for the occasion. The cere•
rnony was performed by Rev. 1'. A,
Steadman, assisted by Rev. Thiban-
deau of Putman and Rev. J. Turner of
Michigan. About 20 guests were pres-
ent. After warn congratulations, all
repaired to the dining•room, where a
bountiful menu was spread. The best
wishes of their many friends go to Mr.
and Mrs. Whiteside in their new home.

covering his sight.

Whalen
A very interesting game of baseball
was played here between Cedarville
and Whalen Thursday evening fast.
The Cedarville boys were much diaap•
pointed the turn the game took. The
thought all they bad to do was to reach
and grab the game. They reached and
got the lemon. One bad fifty dollars
to pot up on the game, but when the
game was started be waa asked the
color of his coin -and he faded. The
score was a decisive victory for Whal-
en, beirg eleven to three, ill -3), and
