The London Conference.
' Items of Interest Connected w ith
the Meetings.
Rev. A. 11. (ioiag, B. A., pastor of
the James street church, Exeter, wits
elected president of the conference on
the second ballot. Itevs. Hamilton
and Oliver were next in line for the
position. Mr. Going, on the first bal-
lot received just one less than the re-
quired number to elect, getting 121
out of 243. On the second ballot be
got 160 out of.r.31. Mr. Going during
the general session occupied the chair
and made an excellent presiding officer.
Rev. T. W. Blatchford was elected
journal secretary on the first ballot.
Rey. Walter' Itussell, the Presbyter-
ian evangelist who led the devotional
exercises each morning, is a very elo-
quent preacher, and large congrega-
tions of delegates and residents heard
binswith interest and profit.
About 300 ministers and laymen
were present, all of whom seemed to
be pleased with the entertainment te-
ceived at the hands of the Exeter peo-
ple.
On Sunday, the, ordination service,
the mass meeting of the Sunday
School, the 4 o'clock Meeting and the
evening service drew immense crowds
of people and the church was filled to
the doors on each occasion. The ex -
president, Rev. Ford, conducted the
morning service, Rev. Walter Russel,
the 4 o'clock service, and Rev. Oliver
the evening service.
Other pulpits of town and district
wers occupied by visiting ministers to
a large extent on Sunday.
Rev. W. E. Millson of Kingsville.
was the leader of the singing during
the conference and he proved to be
the right man in the right place.
The ordination class consisted of

A., Clark Logan, B. A., W. L. Hiles,
13. A., G. W. Down, B. A,. David
Wren, B. A., I. 11. Kilpatrick, 13. A.
and A. F. Whitehall.

A large number of probations were
continued on trial.
A resolution was passed urging the
Dominion Government to prohibit
the importation of opium.
Askin Street Methodist Church,
London. has been selected as the place
of meeting for the next conference.
Rev. Wm. Kettlewell has been np-
pointed field secretary of the Dominion
Alliance.
Excellent reports were received of
the progress of the work at Victoria
University and .Uma College.
Reeve nobler and Councillor Hea-
man welcomed the Conference to the
town.
A resolution of appreciation of the
Ontario Governments enforcement of
the liquor license laws was passed, but
regretted the three-fifths requirement,
$22,450,000 was raised for missionary
purposes last year.
Mrs. Baker of Ailsa Craig sang a
much appreciated solo Sunday even-
ing.

officer. The result is just about as ex-
pected. The Township of Stephen did
a little more than expected for Eilber
and Hay did a little better than ex-

the necessary oath.

of Geo. Banner be reduced $75 and
that 1 dog be included in the assess-
ment. --Carried.
Johns—Fuke—that the Exeter Can-
ning and Preserving Co's. assessment
of 8800 for storehouse be struck out,
and that the fixed assessment of $5000
(as per agreement) for the whole pro-
perty hold good.—Carried.
Fuke—Johns—that the $1''"t) assess-
ment of James Parkinson bow reduced
to $1000.—Curried.
Johns—Fake--that the Court of Re-

Mr. Robert Disney has purchased
the furnishings of the Mansion house
from Mr. Thomas Cook, and, subject
of the transfer of the license, will be-
come "Mine Host" at the Mansion in a
few weeks,
Roy Forth Wood, son of Willia m
Wood of London and nephew of
Messrs. Wood brothers of Exeter, was
drow ed at Fort.William on Saturday
last. The funeral took place at Lon-
don, a number from here attending.
Ile was 20 years of age.

marriage of Mr- (deo. McTaggart, son
of Mr. Peter McTaggart, London Road
North, to Miss Violetta Beatrice
Thompson, of Blyth: "The home of
Mrs. Thompson, Albert St., was the
scene of a very pretty wedding on
Wednesday, June :3rd, when her
daughter. Miss Violetta Beatrice, be.
came the bride of Mr. Geo. McTaggart
of Blyth. The house was prettily
decorated for the event; the wedding
ceremony being performed by Het.
Mr. Gonne. At high noon the bride,
wearing a beide! veil and orange
blosst.tns, ;old ram in;; a boquet of
Mlles -of the -valley : 1 d maiden hair
ferns, entered the room, on the arm
of her brother George, by whom she
was given away, to the strains of the
wedding match. which was rendered
by her sister, Mrs. A. H. Tierney, of
Blyth. After the ceremony, the patty
sat down to a nice wedding dinner.
They left on the afternoon train for
the Pacific Coast via Owen Sound.
Miss Thompson was a highly popular
young lady of Clinton, acid she has the
good wishes of her many friends. Nr.
McTaggart is the popularstationagent
of the Grand Trunk Railway at Blyth,
at which place the young couple will
take up residence.
