Mr. Geo. Easterbrook has been laid

ed with his family into Mrs. Dearing's
house on the opposite side of the street.
Mrs, Henry Runde!, Thames Road,
wbo, a few days ago, met with a very
painful accident, caused by falling and
spraining her foot, is able to be around
again.
Miss Etta Kerslake, who has been
confined to her house for the past two
weeks through illness, caused by an
abscess in her bead. has sufficiently
recovered to be out again.
Mr. John hunter during the week
delivered to purchasers no less than
sixteen new McCormick binders. The
farther has faith in the summer sea-
sons in Ontario.
Rev. E. A. Fear leaves next week to
attend the International Young Peo-
ple's Movement Convention in Pitts-
burg, being a delegate sent by the Lon-
dou Coufereuce.
Owing to the freight train not going
south until Saturday the horses of Mr.
T. E. Handford that were to have
been shipped on Wednesday did not
get away until Saturday.
When the girl who has encouraged
a young man for several years sudden-
ly tells him she can be no more than
a sister to him, he can for the flrst
time see the freckles on her nose.
Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Clarke this
week moved their household effects
from the rooms in the McDonell block,
to Mr. C. B. Snell's new house on An-
drew street, which they have rented
for a term.
Ex -Warden Hugh Spackman was
among those who attended the special
County Council meeting in Seaforth
last week. Tbo town tendered the
council, and a number of visitors and
others, a banquet Tuesday evening, at
which Mr. Spackman was one of the
speakers.
The uniform promotion examina-
tions for the county of Huron will be
held on Thursday and Friday. April

ers will he prepared for the junior and
senior divisions of II and 111 classes
and junior IV class. A postcard, stat-
ing the number of papers required for
each class, should be sent to the pub.

arth; 3rd, checking insect and fungus
pests by spraying. S. Powell. Twenty
minutes will be allowed for the intro-
duction of each paper followed by dis-
cussion. H. E. Huston.

Married on the Stage.
Goderich was treated to a sensation
last Tuesday night—a public marriage
of two of the Francis Green Stock Co.,
took place on the stage of the Opera
House during the performance. The
ceremony was performed by the Pres-
byterian clergyman, Rev. Jas. A. And-
erson, amid a forest scene and camp
fire. a most unique environment.

way business uncertain again this
week, and the trains are running only

tine farm of Mr. Wm. Bagshaw, on
the 3rd concession of Stephen, paying
therefor 88000. Mr. James Bagshaw
who has been working the farm for
some years has decided to go west and

Messrs. Jewel R Harness' horse ran
away on Tuesday and going east on
Huron street with the shafts dangling
ran " kerchuck " against a load of
wood on Main street end tipped it ov-
er.

Mansion House yard and was caught.
Apparently the horse had no injury
whatever.
The Kincardine congregation over
which Rev. H. W. Locke, (a former
pastor of the Main street Methodist
church here) has officiated for the
past three years, has extended an un-
animous invitation to him to remain
with them a fourth year. Mr. Locke
declined, having accepted an invitation
to the pastorate of Hope Methodist
church, East Toronto.
The Brussels Post of last week says:
— "A proposition is on foot. for the ex-
tension of the C. P. It. line from Port
Burwell via Exeter and Seaforth to
Brussels and north to 1Vroxeter. Cots
respondence is being carried nn with
the company in reference to it. This
line would provide a short north line
now required and would tap the C. P.
IL lines east and west at Walton and
Wroxeter. A delegation from the
municipalities interested may wait
upon the C. P. R. The road is survey-
ed as far as Exeter." We had not
heard of any such railway itt Exeter.

alb of an Aged Resident.
One of Exeter's oldest residents and
rliest business men passed away on
onday, Marr•h 2nd. when the death
occurred of Mr. Charles Howe at the
age of S7 years and 8 months. Mr.
Rowe was trot n in Devonshire, Eng-
land. in 18211 and together with his
now her en ved help mate he emigrated
to ('.,nada in 1v1(1, settling in i•.xeter,
whet e he continually resided for fifty.

mediately took up the occupation of a
tailor, and followed that work until
some ten years ago when failing
health caused hint to retire. Since
that time he had been nt,re or less
well until it short time previous to his
death when he began to fail rapidly.

Blake who is deceased, Mrs. Charles
Rowe of Fleshing, Mich., and Mrs.
John Braund of town. One brother,
John, died $hout two months ago in
noshing, Mich. The funeral is to
take place this Thursday afternoon at
2 o'.lu.:k to the Exeter cemetery. The
late Mr. Rowe was a man well known
about town for the decided stand he
took in matter of municipal or other
politic•. and he delighted in an argu-
ment at any time. On many occasions
he has worsted his opponents by his
ufrtnswerahle arguments. Always w
lover of his home that was where the
greater part of his life was spent and
particularly ,luring the last few years
it Wss only occasionally that he got
down town among the friends who
wete always pleased to see hint. A
than of careful habits he ncemnulated
