A Trip to the Holy Land.
Mr. and Mrs. Sites Sweet, of Van-
couver, 13, C., were visiting relatives
and friends in and around town for a
few days. Mr. Sweet is an old Exeter
boy and is one of whore his many
friends feel justly proud. Ile left here
about thirty years ago and settled in
Emerson. Man„ where he ,let, woed
and married his very estimable wife.
They had considerable property in
that town, which they lost when the
town went into the hands of the re-
ceiver many years ago, the details of
which are yet remembered by many of
the residents of this place and vicinity.
Nothing daunted, Mr. and Mrs- Sweet
shook the dust of Emerson from their
feet and migrated to the Coast, finally
settling in Vancouver, B. C„ which
place has been their horse ever since.
t'nlike many others who went west,
Mr. Sweet did not contract the gold
fever and go prospecting, but devoted
his time to the building up of his
chosen province and engaged in the
contract business, and by his integrity
of character, untiring energy and per-
severance again repaired his broke,
fortunes, and has been connected with
the erection of many Government
buildings, not only of this country,
►>':t also of the l'nited States and Mex-
ico. But neither Mr. nor Mrs. Sweet
believe in the accumulation of this
world's goods for the mere sake of
possessing its wealth, but that a judic-
ious expenditure is in keeping with
the law of God and the will of man.
and after the death of their only son
a few years ago, they decided upon a
enjoyable evening in games and amuse- trip to the Holy Land, and accotnpan•
meats." lett by Miss McKechnic, an adopted
daughter, they became members of a
tourist party which left Toronto early
in the spring of last year. After an
extended tout of England, Ireland
and Scotland, they went to the Conti-
nent, and after visiting several of the
different nations there, proceeded to
Horne and had an audieece with the
Pope, in company with about thirty
other pilgrims. 11ete they received
the Papal blessing and were allowed
to kiss the Pope's hand. It might be
said in passing. that if all the people
of the w..rlf were enabled to see 11is

people :light he realized. as he quite
won the lee•alts of all, and especially

of the trip was the marriage of two

Perhaps the most conspicuous thing
about the bye -election campaign in
South Huron is the bringing it 00 so
soon after the death of Mr. Gunn, in
the hope to gain a snap verdict from
the people. However, that hope is
not likely to be realized, as reliable
reports say that Mr. Horton is gaining
ground each day.
Prof. Green with his moving picture
machine, under the Firemen's aus-

of people in the Opera House Tuesday

the audience to attend the Firemen's
concert, and the organization for the
campaign will take place this IThurs-
