Methodist District Meeting
The Exeter diftrict Meeting of the
Methodist church was held in Centra-
lia Thursday last. The meeting eont-
inenced at 9:31) with the chairman,
Rev. A. 11. Going. presiding. Ab:uut
twenty-five Ministers and laymen
were present. Reports of the mission-
ary, educational and temperance wet k
of the year were received nod were
found very encouraging. As far as
the general average of circuits is con-
cerned the chairman said this was the
banner district of the London confer-
ence.
The Sunday school convention held
In the afternoon and eyening wits
largely attended by workers in the
schools. At two o'clock the m feting
opened with Mr. Going in the chair.
The delegates all gave glowing reports
of the pt ogress of the work througout
the district. Instructive addresses
were give by Rev. Baker or Ailsa
Craig and Rev. dart of Kijpen.
The ladies of the Centralia church
had decorated it pleasingly with flow-
ers, evergreens and bunting. and also
furnished a delightful supper in the
basement.
Rev. E. A. Fear of Exeter, the Sun-
dae School secretary had charge of
the evening meeting, when addresses
were given by Rev. Bartlett of Wood-
ham, Mr. [Weston of Exeter and Rev.
Millyau'd of Birr; a well rendered solo
was rendered by Mrs. (Rev.) Baker;
and the choir under the able leader-
ship of Mr. N E. Hicks gave a num-
ber of choice selections.
In every way the meetings were the
best held in the district for many
years.
Exeter Council
The Council of the Village of Exe-
ter, suet in the Town ,hall, Monday,
Sept. 20, all the members being pre-
sent. Minutes of rneeting held Sept.
9th, were read and approved.
Mr. Thos. Brock addressed the
Board regarding his cow being placed
in the y'',trds adjoining the Town Hall,
preventing the cow from returning
borne or from being found and for
which he was convicted before a mag-
istrate. No action.
A communication was read from
the Canadian Independent Telephone
Association asking a grant of $5.00
from the Municipality for membership
in the Association.. Filed.
Mr. James Weekes, Fire chief, re-
ported receiving suction hose and
haying the same replaced on hand fire
engine. Also that he bad tested the
new fire bell at the North End fire hall
and found the sante unsatisfactory.

complete recovery and no disfigure-

School Board Minutes.
The Board held its regular monthly
session Monday evening at 8.30, with
all Members present. The following
is the order of business duly submitted
and approved: Minutes of previous
meeting. Reports of committee: Re-
pairs, that the eavetroughing and wa-
ter pipes had been placed in good re-
pair; %Veil, that the flow and purity of
the new weal appeared to be perman-
ent and of a tuost desirable character.
Howe--Wood-that the flooring oil re-
ceived from the Likerly Drug Oil It
Chemical Co be returned forthwith.
Huston -Rowe -that II. Huston be
appointed to secure a suitable cupboard
for Miss McCallum's department. Car-
ling that the judgment of the well
committee in purchasing a new pump
in place of using the old as directed be
approved. Martin -;;lows -that the
details of the Janitor's contract be sub-
mitted to his attention forthwith.
Huston -Martin -that the present flag
pole be taken down and the roof re-
paired under the direction of the re-
pairs cow. Martin -Carling -that H.
Huston be deputed to find the most de-
sirable site for a new flag pole and to
report. on the bestsuitable pole at the
next meeting of the Board. Martin -
Wood -that the following payments

Centralia
Mrs. D. L O'Brien ie spending a few
weeks with friends in Chatham, De-
troit and Ann Arbor. --Will Fraser
was in Seaforth Friday attending the

felt for Mr. Daniel t11cCtirdy and fain-
ily,2nd con.. Stephen, in the loss they
have sustained by the untimely death
on Monday of the wife and another,
Dorothy Ann Cooper, at the age of :33

McCurdy. was sick about five weeks orpernicious anemia of the blood, follow-
ing childbirth. Besides the husband,
five children. three girls and two boys
survive, Nino, Reah, Irene, (proper
and Franklin. Deceased was a daugh-
ter of .ianathan Cowper of Elimville.
Mrs. John McCullagh of Farquhar and
Mrs. Nelson Biker of Fairfield are sis-
ters, while two half sisters, Miested-3er-
tie and May, and a half-brother, Bruce,
reside with the father. Deceased was
a native of 1.limville,tnd there married
Mt'. McCurdy sixteen years ago. She
was of a kind and pleasant disposi-
tion and her demise is a great los

Mrs. Hemphill of %Vroxetet is visit-

shortly for Jarvis where he will go in-

has returned from Belleville where he
has placed his son Johnnie in a Deaf
and Dunib school. The little fellow is
very bright and we wish hits every

here attended Zurich fair Thursday,

to attend the fair. -Root. Baker has

man. --A Brandt and Jack Moore Spent
a few days in London lust week on
business. -Communion service was
held in Carmel church Sunday at
which a large number attended. -Next
unday the Methodist Sunday school
will hold a rally day. -Mrs. Ferguson
of Avonbank is visiting her son the

Bell Chesney still continues to im-
prove. -Kenneth White, who has been
on the Sovereign Bank staff here for
some time, left at few days ago for New
Liskard where he joins the staff there.

number of his young friends. He will
be touch missed here in social, musical

GODEHICH PEOPLE KILLED
Galt, Sept. 20. -Frederick Reid, aged
28. and his newly-wed wife, fotetnerly
Miss McDowell, i;cd 2.-s both of God-
erich, were killed at the level crossing
three miles north of Hespeler at noon
to -day. The tragedy is one of the
most pathetic character.
.Mr. and Mrs. Reid were married on
Wednesday in the Victoria Street
Methodist Church, at Godet•ich, and
left on the evening train for their
honeymoon. Yesterday they spent in
Guelph and to -day were driving from
there to Ilespeler when they met their
death.
