Miss Edna Holz of Blake spent Sun-
day at the home of her sister Mrs.
Geo. Edighoffer.—Mrs. (Rev.) I.. K.
Eidt left Saturday for Listowel to vis-
it her brother, Rev. G. H. Wagner,
who is dangerously ill, Rev. Eidt fol-
lows for the sante place.—Arthur Kel-
lerman, a student at North Western
College for the ministry, occupied the
pulpit in the Evangelical church, 14th
con., on Sunday afternoon. He leaves
in a short time to resume his studies.
—Miss Gillespie of Exeter spent the
past week with her friend Miss Emma
Callfas.--Esli Heywood and wife spent
Sunday at the home of Chris. Finkbei-
ner of this place.—Miss Flossie -Snell of
Exeter spent Sunday with her aunt,
Mrs. David Tiernan.—Sol Miller, who
is working at the tinsneitbing in Lon-
don, spent Sunday at his home here. -

tended the wedding of a relative at
Shipka Wednesday.—A number of our
citizens are attending London fair this

turned from Toronto.—W. Ehlers has
placed a steam boat whistle on his
boiler at the trill which will be used
by our town, --Rev. Jacob Ehlers and
brother Emanuel have returned to
Napierville.--D. Tiernan who lost his
hardware stock in the recent fire, in-
tends openingup again in Hoffman's
old stand.—zra Bender has resumed
his duties as clerk with D. Tiernan af-
ter a two weeks' vacation.
WKnniNo.—The Lhtherian church
was on Wednesday the scene of a
very pretty event when Nicholas Stire
claimed Miss Christina, daughter of
Mr. Alois Brenner as his bride. The
intere sting ceremony, which took
took place at six o'clock, was perform•
ed by Rev. Thou. pastor of the church
in the presence of it number of guests.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the
company repaired to the bride's home
where the young cnliple received most
hearty wishes from all present. after
which aH partook of a very snntptei•
07)5 repast. The bride was the recip-
ient aft a large array of handsome, use-
ful and costly wcdeiing gifts. The ev-
ening %as most pleasantly spent in so•

Gestreicher has returned home front
Berlin after at pleasant visit with her
sister Mrs, (Rev.) J. A. Schmidt.— Mrs.
Chas. %wicker has returned from a de-
lightful trip to the Pacific Coast. She
was accompanied by ber parents Mr.
and Mrs. V. Hatt—Prof. Almond, the
eye specialist, is in town and is doing
considerable business,—Miss Della
Brown was appointed Secretary of
the Evangelical Sunday School Sun-
day for the unexpired terns formerly
held by Miss Melinda Trick. --Mrs.
Emma Scott and Mrs. McCauihridge
of Philadelphia have been visiting rel-
atives in our midst the past week.—
Mrs. Link and Mies Calvin have ar-
rived home after attending the millin-
ery openings in Toronto. Mrs. Link
will again bilge charge of S. Brown's
millinery department and Miss Calvin
at C. Zwickers's. We haven't learned
what the styles will be but hope to do
so in the near future, providing we
can grasp the ideas enough to write it
down. We did hear of a "Cheyenne
style" hut that is all.—Our Dr. is all
smiles these days. Everywhere he is
receiving congratulations, a son. —
Herb Silber is spending a few days in
Detroit and Ubly, Mich.. visiting rela-
tives and acquaintances. --Willie Paul
has returned to hie home in Loring.

Mrs- Albert Cunningham and family
are home again after an extended visit
with friends in London.—Two of our
young ladies have succeeded in secur-
ing situations as milliners. We refer
to Miss Clara Heist who goes to Mt.
Forest and Miss Saloma Hirtzel to
Eaton's, Toronto. We wish tbern
every success.—Jacob Heist returned
home Friday after visiting his sons in
the neh hborbood of Sehewaing and
Kilmanagb, Mich.—Next Saturday and
Sunday special quarterly services will
be held in the Evangelical church.
Rev. Eidt of Dashwood will preach
next Saturday afternoon and evening.
—C. Zwicker has bis seed warehouse
finished. He will put in it gasoline en-
gine for motive power to clean the
seed and expects to be able to handle
more treed *firing the coming season
than in the past.—Our trustees have
bad the old board walk torn up which
formerly led to the old school, as well
as cleaning up the yard in general,
thus greatly improving the appear-
ance of the same.—Daniel Oestreicber
has finished painting his residence. It
is now one of the prettiest in town.—
Host Hill, of the Central, deserves the
thanks of our citizens for lighting his
street lamp these dark nights, espec-
ially Sunday. Its about time some-
thing was done towards the lighting
of our streets. --Word has been receiv-
ed from Pigeon, Mich, that Mrs. To-
bias Wurtz died Sunday. Deceased
moved to Michigan with her husband
last year to reside with their children.
She was quite poorly when here and
illness gradually became worse. The
retrains were interred in the Pigeon
cemetery. The many- friends in this
vicinity join in extending the sincere
sympathy to the bereaved husband
and family.—T. Appleton has purchas-
ed the house and lot at present occu-
pied by Mre. Sophia Wichart. The
latter intends leaving in a' few weeks
for Ebenezer, N.Y., where she intends
residing in the 01d People's Home.
—Owing to the continued illness of
Mrs. Michael Klumpp, the Knights of
the Maccabees of the World, of which
she is a member. have granted her Dis-
ability Benefits, which amount to one
tenth of the amount of her policy per
year, and is paid quarterly. The Or-
der is to be highly commended for the
great good it is doing in this way
throughout the country.
WKnn1No.--A very pretty wedding
took place Thursday evening, Sept. 5,
at the home of Charles 0. Koeltzow,
188 Linwood avenue, Detroit, when
Miss Beatrice Beaver. slaughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Michael heaver of this
place, and Wilson Fleming, of the De-
troit Savings Bank, and formerly of
Toronto, were united in marriage.
Rev. Ostroth oMciated in the presence
of abort fifty guests. The bride, who
was attired in white net and carrying
white roses, was attended by Miss
Lillie Koeltzow, who was similiarly
attired to that of the bride and carried
pink roses. The rooms were prettily
decorated in pink and white. The
presents were numerous and costly and
clearly showed the way the bride and
groom ate esteemed by their friends
in the city. Mr. and Mrs. Fleming will
make their home at 500 Grand His r
avenue, Detroit, where they will be at
horne after Oct. 1. \Ve join in wish-
ing the happy couple every happiness
through their period of married life.

The harvest is all past and most of
the farmers have their fall wheat
sown. There is not so large an acre-
age going in this year as the land is
too dry and hard to work.—Mr'.George
Pollen of St. Mary's was holidaying in
the burg last week.—Mr. John Vance
intends embarking in the apple busi-
ness this fall as usual.—Miss Ada
Tucker has returned home a week's so-
journ at Bethesda.—Wm. Gardiner
and Reg. Turnbull have resumed their
studies at St. Marys.—Quite it number
faom here are attending the Western
Fair this week.—Mr. John Stewart, sr.
has quite a curiosity in the shape of a
calf, which has only three legs, one
foreleg being wanting; nevertheless it
hops around and is doing well.

tending the Clinton Model,—Miss Eth-
el Stevens has gone to Seaforth where
she will take a course in dressmaking.
—Threshing is now on in full blast
and J. Thirsk onr thresher is kept
busy.—Miss Linley, after an enjoyable
visit in out' midst left last week for
her home in Kincardine.—Miss G.
Kennedy has returned from an enjoy-
able outing at Westminster Grove, as
a guest, of Rev. :end Mrs. Davidson. --
C. Zirk bas placed metal roofing on bis
barn.—Rev. Davidson and fatally have
returned from their month's vacation.
—Miss Irene Douglas entertained a
number of ber young friends recently.
Chris. Bechler's trill is again in opera-
tion.

EXULTS!!t
BOY DEPORTED.—Three
months in Canada and half of that
spent in jail is the record of Arthur
Swansborongh,the 10 -year-old English
boy, who was arrested on July 1st on a
charge of having stolen a watch be-
longing to Thomas Riley, a Biddulph
farmer, for whom the boy was work-
ing. Police Magistrate Smith of Ailsa
Craig sentenced the youngster, who,
by the way, looks 20 at least, to six
months in Central prison. The Cent-
ral Prison people, however, refused to
accept the boy, and the case was placed
before the Governor-General, who or-
dered Swanborough deported. Mon-
day at 5 o'clock a.m. Immigration in-
spector Boston arrived and took the
lad to Toronto where he will be taken
in charge by the llamado Home au-
thorities and deported to England
from whence he was brought by Bar-
nado Home agents. The boy is said
to be a very bright youngster and to
have some knowledge of drilling tac-
tics. When the prisoners were turned
out for their daily exercise in the jail
yard he used to amuse himself and the
other prisoners t:v going through a
series of drills wail a broom.
Mr. A. C. Barclay very acceptably
filled the pulpit of the Trtvitt Memor-
ial church 011 Sunday last, in the ab-
sence of Rev. Collins, who is taking
holidays.
