In reply to our reporter, Mr. Harris refuted the early stages of Iite attack end subsequent sufferings which he ex- po raenced, and while he did not court Publicity, decided that in the public in. iciest he would relate the circumstances of this wonderful cure. About fourteen months ago \tr. Harris woke up one morning tt•illi a slit( neck; try as he vomit', and after applying all the reme- dies externally that he could hear or thudk of, he was unable to get rid of it The stiffness moved to the spine and shoulders, then to his hips, until :t )made nlntost a cripple of him, and 4t oras with extreme difficulty that he c' u!d get out of bed at all. As for winking it was out of the question with !him. The attack becatne so bad that be was unable to put on either his coat, vert or hal. From time to lime he called in Various Med teal men, none o' whom were able to gine hint ouch relict. It was almost impossible for him to raise his feet from the floor, and all pronounced his n severe case of muscular rheumatism, giving him little encouragement as to his ultimate re- covery. however, one medical gentle- man finally recommended the baths, and as a last resort Mr. llarris decid- ed, to follow his advice, and went to Mount Clemens, Mich. As is customary with all patients, Mr. llarris had to undergo a thorough examination in order to detervnine it the system can stand this rigorous treatment. After several examinations had been made as to Mr. Harris' condition, the phy- sicians there finally decided Ilett lie ams not suffering from muscular rheu- matism at all, but that his "ailment was of the nerves, and told hint that the laths would do him little or no good; that he required altogether different treatment. Mr. Ifarris placed himself in the hands of one of the physicians there. and whnl seemed quite strange ti' him, they did nothing for hire but administer medicine in the shape of ,,•ill.. Shortly after he commenced this treatment he began to improve percep- tibly, and his appetite greatly improv- ed. Ile began to walk around slowly at first, but soon was able to get pond more than he could for a year previous. Ile MLR able to put on his coat and yell toastban to feel like former self. Punctually at 5 o'clock when 11w 5(111 begins to Tose its lower, nearly everyone nuives clubward, The glaring white road, until then occu- pied only by an occasional bullock bandy with its native driver, suddenly becomes dm scene of the utmost animation, dog- carts, carriages, ponies and bicycles all following one another in the sante direc- t ion. Play and chat are at once the order of alit' day. While some indulge in croquet Badminton, others lilt the tennis smuts, which are provided with a num- ber of little brown -faced boys who run about and pick up the balls. When the light fails, two groups are formed in the compound; the women sit and gossip over their iced drinks, while the men Bluster around the peg table. Finally, the club building itself is entered, and earls and billiards are enjoyed under the punkah until it is time to go home and dress for dinner. 'Nothing is more striking on one's first t 1sit to the club, says a writer in the Lady, than the extraordinary high spl tilt: one mecti on every side. Some 853 they are forced, others that they are due to the lightness and brightness of the air, but certaixly such jokes and laugh- le.• are not heard elsewhere. Tragedy may lie underneath, but on the surface n!1 is merriment. Almost everyone is young. and all are ready for a little rontpanionsnip and amusement after the long hot hours spent in the office or bungalow. It is this friendly intercourse with one another which Anglo -Indians miss so mucic when they first return to England and have to put up with the aloofness of country society or the limi- tations of suburbia. Then, India is the ideal country for visiting. Each visitor arrives at a friend's bungalow with his own servants and ponies. Native servants are respon- sible for their own )meals of curry and rice, and curl themselves up in a rug to Isleep in any avallable corner, so are no trouble in any person's household.
