Sask., to spend a couple of months. Their home is at Hanover, Ont. Mr. Strachan, is a son of Mrs. John Strachan of this locality and well known about here, Miss Mary Miller, who was a pupil of Miss Bessie Hoses, S. S. GREY, Robert Davidson, Toronto, is making a visit at the home of his brother, Thos. Davidson, llth cors. Re is a welcome visitor. Friday night, July 23rd, Lachlan Mc- Neil, an old and well known resident of the 14th con., was called away to the Great Beyond, at the age of 83 years and 10 months. He had been in failing health for about two years and noticeably so since last Christmas but with good pluck he kept about, driving to Brussels two weeks prior to his demise. De- ceased was the 2nd son of the late Arch. and Jeanet McNeil, of the Isle of Mull, Argyleshire, Scotland, and was born in township of Dalhousie, Co, of Lanark, Ontario. He came Westward and located in Grey township in 1853, securing fine fatm property on the 14th con., where he lived continuously. Sixty years ago he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Lamont, also of this township, and they made for themselves a comfortable home by patient industry and thrift. Mrs. McNeil passed to her reward two years ago. Nine children were born to them, the sons being Jno. A., Archie (deceased) and Hector J , of Estevan, Sask, The daughters are:— Catharine and Sarah (deceased), Mrs. Jno. Etoss, 13. C.; Mrs. P. 0, Duncan, Estevan, Sask,; Mrs. Wm. Hamilton, Passburg, Alta., and Mrs. James M. Knight, Grey township. Three sisters also survive, Mrs. Leslie, North Dakota; Mrs. Logan, Minneapolis, and Mrs. A. Sinclair, Brussels. The cause of Mr. McNeil's death was cancer of the stomach. The, subject of this notice took a great interest in good horses and cattle and was known throughout the countryside for the stallions he import. ed. He was a faithful member of the Cranbrook Presbyterian church, held official position for years and was sel- dom absent from his pew when health permitted. Every good cause won his friendly support. In politics he was a staunch Liberal and he was ever ready to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or those in need. He was a member of Brussels A. 0• U. W. Brussel, Voters' List has been issued for 1915. It contains 350 names divided as follows:—Part I. 220; Part II. 124 and Part III, 0. 117 are eligible to serve King George as Jurors. Barrister A. B. and Mrs. McDonald of Cranbrook, B.C., are visitors at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Holmes, William street. Mrs. McDonald is a daughter, and both she and her husband were former residents of Brussels, Mrs. James Elliott, Mill street, had her household effects shipped to Strat- ford, where, she expects to make her home. Many old friends regret the re- moval (if this excellent family from Brussels but wish them many happy years in the Classic city. The new mill is about ready to have the machinery installed and a consign- ment is at hand from Toronto. Engine has been overhauled and the water wheels got ready for business so that everything will be in readiness in the course of a week or so it is expected. Dr. and Mrs. McDiarmid and two children, of West Virginia, were here to visit R. Leatherdale and family last week. They were travelling by motor and from here went to Fort Huron, Mich. to visit relatives after which they will turn homeward. It was a long trip but the visitors appeared to be enjoying it. They are relatives of Mr, Leatherdale. W. K, Lodt, a Burlington farmer, was drowned while swimming in Whiteman's Creek, near Brantford, LIVE STOOK 5IA111).167316 Toronto, Aug. 2nd—Good cattle were steady, but there was a slight decline in the prices of the poorer grades at the Union Stock Yards yesterday, Lambs were 25c to 50e per hundred weight lower, and hogs were unchanged. The receipts were 116 cars, contain- ing 2,232 cattle, 110 calves, 779 hogs and 1,154 sheep and lambs. .Buyers for the large abbatoirs were looking for choice steers and heifers, and for these prices that compared wdll with the best of last week were offered, Unfortunately there was an excessive supply of poor animals on the market, and bids for these were from to 10c to 25c lower than a week ago. Offerings of sheep and lambs were comparative- ly heavy and prices declined from 25c to 50c on account of a limited demand. Select hogs held steady at $9 off the cars and at $8,7.5 fed and w atered. Ail heavy hogs weighing 230 pounds and over are subject to a discount of 50c per hundredweight. Stags are 4c a pound lower than selects.
