EDITORIAL NOTES
^
There is going to be a fine group of
Liberal candidates in Ontario at the
next election. Archibald Hislop of
North Huron should be one of the
elected as well as one of the best of
them.-Teronto Globe.
practical and successful farmers an a
large scale. They are both able, elo-
quent and conviming speakers who are
thoroughly conversant with the public
questions of the eountry and if elected
will creditably represent old Huron in
the Parliament of Canada. It now be-
hoves the Liberals of Huron to close up
theiriranks, take off their coats, meta-
phorically speaking, and go to work and
keep at work from now until election
day and if they do this, success will
surely crown their efforts and they will
have the honor and pleasure of being
represented by two of the ablest men
in the Dominion Parliament.
Gexmany's total export trade for 1913
amounted to £263,905,000. Her prin-
cipal exports, with their values, were:
-Machinery, R27,220,000; cotton goods,
219,575,000; woollen goods, &13,135,000;
iron articles, 210,725,000; silks, £9 - 5,
000, and manufactures of leather, £7,
295,000. The list also includes ties,
wool, yarns, iron bars, bicyles, dresses,
brass and copper articles, wire, electri-
cal material, chinaware, motor cars,
etc, etc. Her exports in 1900 amount-
ed to £145,000,000, so that they have
almost doubled in the thirteen years.
After the war Germany will have to
start all over again. -Journal of Com-

English as she is spoke in the remote
highlands is not exactly the tongue of
the south, which fact is illustrated by a
brief conversation which took place be-
tween three highland ghillies who had
a sup each of the laird's own mountain
dew. Says Tougal : "That wass the
fery pest whuskey her nainsel' nefer
tasted in all her porn tays." Assented
Tonalt : "So did I neither." And An-
gus corroborated: "Neither did I, too."
[London Globe.
The excitement caused by the Ger-
man raid on the British coast was,
doubtless, altogether out of proportion
to the significance of the incident.
What the Germans hope to gain by de-
stroying a few buildings in an unde-
fended city it is not easy to see. Per-
haps the raid was in accordance with
what is said to be the Kaiser's policy
of striking terror into the people of
England. This has always been one of
the Kaiser's strong weapons. It was
in accordance with this policy, so it is
generally understood, that the whole
German plan of campaign in France
and. Belgium was changed, the Kaiser
insisting that the German army should
attempt to cut its way through to Calais,
whatever the cost might be. The
evident purpose was to create a panic
in England. -[Woodstock Sentinal-Re-
view.

WHITECHURCH
The article below, which appeared in
Tuesday's issue, Dec, 15th, of the Tor-
onto Globe, has reference to a brother
of Mrs. (Rev,) J. Ure Stewart, of
Whitechurch, -who has enlisted for ser-
vice abroad. He was born in Blyth ahd
he graduated from Toronto University
in 1912 and after spending a short time
in the West, was offered the important
position of Assistant Commercial Editor
of the Globe. He is now at Quebec and
expects to leave with the second con-
tingent: -"Lieut D. G. McLean, of the
Army Service Corps, who will leave
shortly for Quebec and thence to
the front with Canada's second contin-
gent, was presented with a pair of field
glassses yesterday afternoon by the
members of The Globe staff. Lieut.
McLean, who has been assistant com-
mercial editor of the Globe, during the
past year, leaves this week for his home
in Flesherton, prior to taking his depar-
ture with the second contingent. Dr.
J. A. Macdonald and Mr. Stewart Lyon
made the presentation in behalf of The
Globe editors and reporters, and Lieut.
McLean, left his newspaper associations
followed by the best wishes of a host of
friends."

As will be seen from the report of
the North Huron Liberal 'Convention,
held last Monday in Wingham, the Lib-
erals of North Huron have again select-
ed Mr. Archibald Hislop as their candi-
date. There were no lack of aspirants,
anyone of whom would 'creditably re-
present the riding in Parliament. It
speaks well, therefore, for Mr. Hislop's
wearing qualities that he was the
favorite in a conflict with so many able
and popular aspirants.
Mr. Hislop, although still a compara-
tively young man, has had long political
experience. He represented East Hur-
on for many years in the Provincial
Legislature and was always eleeted by
handsome majorities and he held the
position until he voluntarily retired to
accept the candidature for the Domi-
nion Parliament as successor to Dr.
McDonald. He was twice the candidate
for the Dominion House and although
not so successful in the Dominion as in
the Provincial arena, he made a splen-
did fight on both occasions. He is a son
of the soil, a native of the riding and is
well and favourably known in every
part of it and we predict that in his
case the third trial will be successful
as it generally is.
The Liberals of Huron have now don-
ned their battle array for the next con-
test, come when it will. They have
placed in the field two model candidates.
Tom McMillan and Archie Hislop make
an exceptionally strong team which will
not be easily beaten. They are both

Like wheat before the scythe they'll

The greatest Photoplay ever produced
is "Creation:" its "plot" covers not

preparation has cost enormous sums of
money, and extensive travel in foreign

years of studious research -and it may
be seen for nothing!

with in novels. A visit to the Photo.
Drama of Creation will help the cynic
to bring his ideas more into harmony
with the actual facts. There will he
find a comfortable seat, pleasant music,
and a picture -story of absorbing inter-

the world has seen, because it is the
story of the world itself. From star
nebula to perfection the history of ere-
ation is told as it has been revealed to
scientists and to students of the Bible,
and prophecies of the Scriptures are
used to reach conclusions regarding the
future, which are, to say the least, not
a little startling. The theory underly-
ing the whole story is that each of the
seven days composing the creative
week was an epoch seven thousand
years in length, which makes the full
week of creation equivalent to 49,000
years; that man appeared toward tho
close of the sixth epoch; that we are
now living in the seventh day; and that
as 6,000 years have passed since the
creation of Adam the Millenium, which
is to close the seventh epoch, is near
at hand. It is with this last "day" of
7,000 years that the pictures mainly
deal; however, the gradual transforms -
tion of the earth is traced from a gase-
ous confusion to a proper condition to
support human life; and then follows
the old story of the' fall pf man, with
all its consequent miserie, hopes, joys
and fears.
