Smile for eco passages
The check of 1540.00 from Tim Horton's will be the start of our fundraising for the construction of new eco
passages within the Pinery Park. This year's fund from Pedal the Pinery on Sunday April 27 2014 will also
go to this project.
"It Is a heartfelt project to help protect the small animals from crossing over the bridges in the park. The
oco passages will direct them under for a safe crossing," says Friend of the Pinery Lindsey Ashworth
Ducharme as she accepts a check from Tim Horton's owner Brian Daliner with Karen Wilson and Jill Smith.

Ausable Bayfield Conservation Author-
ity (ARCA).
Landowners in Ausable Bayfield
watersheds can mail in tree orders until
the end of January or provide orders
with payment until the end of February.
"We have spring and fall tree order pro-
grams but spring is the bigger season by
far for tree orders," Jean said. Last year,
ARCA staff planted more than 45,000
trees for watershed landowners, while
landowners purchased and planted an
additional 11,500 trees themselves. The
local residents bought the trees for con-
servation projects such as windbreaks,
watercourse buffers, reforestation of
erosion -prone slopes, or marginal agri-
cultural lands.
Grant programs are available for
projects such as windbreaks, water-
course buffers and larger scale reforest-
ation projects that cover between 50 per
cent anti 100 per cent of the project
costs, depending on the type of project
and availability of local funding pro -
grains. ABCA staff will work on behalf
of landowners to access applicable
funding programs, lean said. Landown-
ers pay the full costs of the trees in many
cases, he saki, but there are often cost -
share programs to help local people
with some or all of the cost of planting
projects. 1le invites people to call the
conservation authority to find out if
there are programs to help with the
costs in their case.
Ausable Bayfield Conservation pur-
chases the trees from private nurseries
to offer for sale to watershed residents.
