Microsoft scam strikes again
Huron County Ontario Provincial Police
(OPP) officers continue to receive complaints
about the "computer repair" scam. A resident
from Port Albert received a phone call on Sep-
tember 27, 2013 from someone pretending to
be a technician from Microsoft. in this version
of the scam, the scammer claimed he could
clean viruses from the victim's computer for a
$5 fee. She provided her credit card informa-
tion and allowed the scammer to remotely
access her computer. The following morning
the victim's credit card provider called to report
two fraudulent transactions each worth $300.
in many cases this scant originates outside
of North America. This successful scats has
victimized numerous Canadians throughout
our country. When you require computer serv-
ice, consult a local reputable computer repair
technician. Don't hand over your money to a
smooth talking con artist. Remember, you are
not being nide when you hang up the phone
on someone who is trying to steal your stoney
or information. Some common indicators of
this scam are:
Unsolicited calls representing a computer
repair company
Urgent solicitation indicating there is a
threat to your computer
Credit card charges ranging from $5 to $470
Credit card charges from foreign banks

Provincial offence notice
issued to officer - following
collision
On September 28, at approximately 9:00
p.m. a member of the Lambton County Ontario
Provincial Police was responding to an urgent
call for service when he came upon a farm
vehicle on Courtright line pulling a wagon
without rear trailer lights or markers. The
member took evasive action to avoid striking
the wagon and the fully marked police vehicle
entered the south ditch and rolled over coming
to rest on its roof.
The officer and his Auxiliary OPP passenger
were taken to a local hospital where they were
treated and released with minor injuries. The
vehicle sustained extensive damage.
Upon completion of the investigation by
OPP Technical Collision Investigators, ()PP
have issued a Provincial Offence. Notice to Pro-
vincial Constable'Ihomas Vanboven, a six year
member attached to the OPi, for Careless Driv-
ing. The other driver was issued a Provincial
Offence Notice under Section 62(24) of the
1lighway'l'rafflc Act for - No Light on Rear of
Trailer.
Impaired driver arrested
after collision
A Lambton Shores man remains in hospital
after losing control of the motor vehicle he was
driving westbound on lura line, September 30,
around 6:30 p.m.
The 28 -year old ratan was taken to Strathroy
hospital with non -life threatening injuries after
rolling his vehicle several times and then strik-
ing a ditch.
As a result of the Lambton Ontario Provin-
cial Police (OPP) investigation, OPP allege that
the motor vehicle was stolen and the OPP Inas
charged the male driver with:
• Impaired driving
• Driving Over the Legal Limit
• Driving While Disqualified
•'Theft Over $5000 (motor vehicle)
• Theft Under $5000 (theft of a bottle

Man arrested after
throwing trash out
A male driver of a motor vehicle was
seen by Lambton Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP), throwing an empty beer
can from his moving vehicle on Lake-
shore road September 28th just before
5:00 p,111.
OPP stopped the driver to investigate
and found that the driver showed signs,
of alcohol consumption. The driver wit'
arrested and as a result of the investiga-
tion and breath tests, now has a Sarnia
court date of October 21.
A 31 -year old Sarnia mon faces an
allegation of Drive Over the Legal
Limit.
Huron opp investigating
suspicious fire
On October 4th at approximately 1:20
a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial
Police (OPP) officers responded to the
scene of an unoccupied hoose fire
located on Mill Road in Varna. hayfield
Fire Department and Brucefield Fire
Department members were able to
contain the fire to the residence how-
ever the damage to the two-story dwell-
ing is quite extensive.
The dollar value of the damage sus-
tained ism( known at this point.
The cause of the fire is suspicious in
nature. The i luron County OPP Crime
!snit continues to investigate and would
like to speak with anyone that may have
information regarding this fire or the
events leading up to it.
