MPP Thompson
adds to portfolio
Now PC Critic for Small Business and Red Tape
Paul Cluff
OMI Agency
Bruce-1luron MP1' Lisa '1hompson
has been named Progressive Conserv-
ative Critic for Small Business and
Red Tape, while keeping her keeping
role as critic: to the Green Energy Act.
Thompson has a background in
small business, as she grew the
Ontario Dairy Goat Co-operative out
of her home, and cultivated the Tees -
water -based business to a multi-mil-
lion dollar operation.
1 am pleased to be taking on this
exciting role within Tim Iludak's
shadow cabinet," said Thompson.
"Small business is the backbone of the
Ontario economy, and Liberal poli-
cies over the last 10 years have made
it near impossible for small busi-
nesses to start-up, let alone flourish.
My job will be to stand up for small
businesses in I luron-Bruce and across
Ontario."
There are 31 breweries who are
members of the Ontario Craft Brewers
Association and over 200 wineries in
Ontario.
In a press release, Thompson said
an example of how red tape and regu-
lation is strangling this one sector is
that if these craft breweries and win-
eries want to ship their product to an
LC110, they cannot do so on the win-
ery or brewery's own truck, they have
to use a third -party shipper.
This adds more costs to a small
business' bottom line, which inevita-
bly is passed on to the consumer, she
added.
"This is just one example of how
government regulations are holding
one sector back from expanding their
market," said Thompson. "'Ihe I'Cs are
the only party standing up for small
business, and 1 look forward to
getting out there, meeting with small

In the press release, party officials
said since her election in 2011,
Thompson has made visiting and
learning from small businesses in

ward to travelling across Ontario to do
the satire.
