Average summer, average fall - weather outlook par for the course
QMI Agency
While it was a great summer for
growers, the weather itself in Huron
County was on par with Environment
Canada's 30 -year average. Fall is gear-
ing up for more of the same.
The Weather Network released their
annual Fall Outlook this past week,
with some promising news for county
residents - we're right on average.
"The summer in Iluron County
averaged out to be fairly seasonal," said
meteorologist Elena Lappo. "Both in
lietnns of temperatures and precipita-
n as weir'
The seasonal average, based on the
past 30 years of weather data, is a day-
time high of 24 degrees and a night-
time low of 14. Local temperatures
worked out to be within one degree of
the average.
Meanwhile, predpitatlon was "quite
normal" as well, Lappo added. 1 low -
ever, there were instances of convec-
tive precipitation - where individual
pockets receive higher than average
rainfall.
All told, l iuron County is predicted
to have between 220-230 millimetres
drain and 20-25 centimetres of snow
over the fall. 'Those numbers are based
on worldwide weather patterns.
"'I'o come up with a seasonal out-
look, we look at global patterns and
anomalies, analyze those patterns and
compare them to what has been done
in previous years," Lappo said. "This
season, what stands out is that none of
these patterns actually stared out."
Being a transitional season, temper-
atures will be up and down between
September and November; with the
high 20s of Labour Day dropping
monthly as the weather seesaws
toward winter.
September's average is expected to
be about 21 degrees, while October is
14 and November 7 degrees. 1 lowever,
that varies day to day.
"We will see that seesawing of
temperatures, Lappo said. "Also, as we
head into fall, we do start to see more
stronger systems that come our way,
and more storms -especially closer to
October, November.''
Cool and dry, warm and wet is the
anticipated pattern for fall, largely due
to an amplified jet stream.
There is a front moving through
southern Ontario that will keep tem-
peratures cool in this first week of ,Sep-
tember, however, things will heat back
up once it has moved on.
The best news for 1 iuron County?
"You do have a good potential for
Indian Summer," I4ppo said.
