None of the occupants were wearing a personal floata- tion device (pfd), nor did they have the required safety equipment necessary for their vessel, The OPP officers issued a ticket to one of the adults on the canoe for not having pfd's on board and then loaned 3 OPP pfd's to the occupants. As the canoe made its way to shore, the vessel was struck by a cross wave and capsized throwing all 3 occupants in the water. The borrowed pfd's kept the 3 persons afloat while the OPP vessel was able to pick them and the canoe up and deliver them safely to shore. "There is no doubt in my mind that we pre- vented a tragedy on our waters that day," commented Sergeant Tim Ives who is the Traffic and Marine Supervisor at the Lambton County OPP.
