Buddy Holly story incredible treat for theatregoers
Lynda HIIIman-Rapley
Lakeshore Advance
You may have seen the
Buddy Holly story at the
Iluron Country Playhouse,
but you have not seen this
production. Right from their
national tour, this show is a
treat to all audiences and
tickets will sell fast.
One actor told the Lake-
shore Advance he has not
experienced the energy of
the HCPII opening night
atudience in his career. "The
leople of Grated Bend and
area are awesome," said Eric
Scott Anthony after the
show. With only one or two
Canadian actors in this com-
pany, they tour from venue
to venue but are having a
blast with what Grand Bend
has to offer.
The plot does not change
any matter who is behind
the scenes. Young Charles
Hardin Holley, known pro-
fessionally as Buddy holly,
was an American singer -
songwriter and a pioneer of
rock and roll. He begins his
career and with the Crickets
they sore to the top of the
charts. We all know his
demise on February 3, 1959
at the age of 22, with the Big
Hopper and Richie Valence.
It is the I8 -months he was a
star that brings theatregoers
time and time again to see
his life in lights. Because this
show is on tour, the set,
props, costumes are also on
tour and the IICPII audi-
ence has the opportunity to
see the whole package.
Both Andy Christopher
and Kurt Jenkins play Buddy.
You as an audience member
won't know care which one
is centre stage because they
are both amazing. His signa-
ture black thick glasses and
unique style take the audi-
ence to a place back to the
late 1950s. When one is play-
ing Buddy, the other is
'1'onlnly Allsup, one of the
Crickets. The music, the
moves, this is an incredible
production. Sam Weber as
Joe, Joe Cosmo Cogen is
Jerry and they are unforget-
table Crickets.
More than 50 years after
"the day the music died," the
sound of rock 'n roll's golden
era returns in this electrify-
ing production that chroni-
cles the life of Holly from his
roots singing country music
in his high-school audito-
rium through his spectacu-
lar rise to worldwide fame,
to his final performance with
'Ihe Crickets at the Surf Ball-
