With construction for Zurich's new
library to begin this fall, library
employees are planning ahead to
conceptualize its interior design.
"[Branch services librarian] Jenni-
fer Zoethout is busy planning what
kind of furniture were going to have,
what kind of shelving,...just planning
on how its going to look inside," said
Huron County Library's Michelle
Carter. "We're just thrilled. We're so
excited.

HOME PLAN OF THE WEEK
PLAN NUMBER 7-4-939
RELEASE DATE:JUL 20TH — JUL 26TH, 2013
SOLIDITY, PROSPERITY AND COMFORT
This handsomely gabled four-bedroom, two-storey family home exudes an air of solidity, prosperity and
comfort. An unfinished basement is included with the plans.
Entry is through a covered porch into a compact foyer, where a coat doset is conveniently placed for
residents and guests. To the right are a powder room and laundry room. The latter, which includes a
coat cupboard for storing off-season gear, has access to the large double garage and will double as
a mud room.
To the left is a long room that encompasses both a parlour and a dining room, designed for more formal
entertaining. The parlour features a fireplace and looks out on to the covered entrance porch. The dining
room, with access to a terrace that steps down to the back garden, has an optional built -out buffet.
Also with access to the terrace is the great room, where a second fireplace will provide cosy warmth
during cooler months. A raised eating bar separates the great room from the kitchen, which includes
a roomy walk-in pantry.
A U-shaped staircase leads to the second floor, where the master suite overlooks the back garden. The
ensuite features double basins, a shower stall and a soaker tub, for a touch of spa -like luxury. Access
to the large walk-in closet is through the ensuite.
Also on the second floor are three smaller bedrooms and a den. Bedroom No. 3 features a built-in desk
that's sure to make homework less onerous. Ceilings are nine feet throughout the home.
Exterior finishes include wooden siding, painted trim and stone accents. Hexagonal shingles decorate
the gables.
This home measures 32 feet wide and 60 feet deep, for a total of 2,363 square feet.

sq. ft. It will be built in the heart of
Zurich on northeast corner of Zurich-
Hensall Road and Goshen Line.
"We're hoping to make it a new
civic space a space that helps recre-
ate a bit of the town's identity that is
already there," said architect Brad
Skinner of the design.
Skinner & Skinner Architects is the
same firm that designed the new
Bayfield Public Library.
"The buildings we do grow out of
their own setting," said Skinner. "This
is not just something that blends in,
it is a bit modern. It looks to the
future."
Skinner said the design draws on
Zurich's character and heritage.
"In the entrance people will walk
under a clock tower to go into the
building," he said. "The clock idea
speaks back to the history of Zurich,
being settled by the Swiss."
Carter said the bigger space will be
more accessible than the current
library.
"1 know there are people who sim-
ply cant get in to the current branch,"
she said. "So having a new branch on
the main street where people can just
walk in or look in through the win-
dow is very exciting."
According to Carter, the library
with have more floor space to accom-
modate scooters, wheelchairs, stroll-
ers, and more accesssible to people
who are uncomfortable with using
stairs.
The library will also have more
shelving space, allowing employees
to set up attractive displays and will
circutnent the problem of having to
reach high or bend down low to grab
a book.
The new library will include a pro-
gramming space for author visits,
story time programs, and will allow
the library to expand their program
offerings, said Carter. The room will
also be available for community use.
The new library will also have a
reading garden.
According to Steve McAuley
Huron County Council is acceptint,3
tenders for a construction manager,
and hopes the library will be open for
use by next spring or summer.
