Young and not so young came by to purchase a book or in some cases a box of books. Poodles of Grand Bend collected the books throughout the year for this fundraiser. POLICE BRIEFS Be careful - children playing Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) reminds motorists to be extra careful as children are excited to be finishing their school year. Drivers need to be aware of children playing, cycling or walking who may not be paying as close attention to the roadways as they should. Please keep the following in mind: • Drive with care at all times. Watch for children playing in park areas and on side streets. Be alert, obey the speed limits and stay off of your cellular phones. ' When approaching bicycles, slow down and pass when it is safe to do. Give the cyclist a full lane when possible. Detachment Commander Inspector Scott Janssens encourages parents to discuss pedestrian and bicycle safety with their kids. "Talk to your kids about the importance of walking on the sidewalks and using crosswalks to cross roadways whenever possible. Insist your children wear bicycle helmets and set a good example by wearing yours!” Bicycle helmets are mandatory for everyone under the age of 18, and parents are held responsible for anyone under the age of 16 who is not wearing a helmet. Please make safety a priority this summer no matter what activities you choose to be involved in. Youth ATV Stolen Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Officers are investigating the theft of a youth All -Terrain Vehicle (ATV) stolen from a Crediton Road residence. The 2012 red PITS Model FJX youth ATV was stolen sometime between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on June 22, 2013. Wednesday, July 3, 2013 • Lakeshore Advance 7 The ATV is valued at approximately $2100. Also stolen was a red helmet valued at $100. Any person with information regarding this incident should immediately contact the Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 524-8314. Should you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1 -800 -222 -TIPS (8477), where you may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000. 3 -Day suspension & open alcohol A 56 year old male driver from South Huron received a Liquor Licence Act ticket and a three day driver's licence suspension following a traffic stop on June 22, 2013. Shortly after 1:00 a.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers stopped a GMC Sierra pickup on Airport Line at Zurich-Hensall Road. The officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol from an open bottle of beer in the front seat cup holder. The driver later provided samples of breath which resulted in a warn range suspension. His driver's licence was suspended for a mandatory three days. As well, he was charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle with an Open Container of Alcohol. Impaired driving and over 80 A 32 year old male driver has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol following a traffic stop on June 22, 2013. At 12:44 a.m. a black Chrysler entered a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E) checkpoint located on King Street and Elizabeth Street in Hensall. Upon stopping the vehicle the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol and was displaying signs of impairment. He was arrested for impaired driving and was transported to the Huron OPP detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath; both were above the legal limit. A 32-yerold man from St. Thomas has been charged with Impaired Driving and Drive Motor Vehicle — Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice — Goderich on August 19, 2013. He received an automatic 90 day driver's licence suspension and the motor vehicle was impounded for seven days. 90 Days for over 80 A traffic stop at a campground located at Keith Crescent in Bayfield has resulted in a 45 year old male driver losing his driving privileges for an automatic 90 days. At 1:42 p.m. on June 22, 2013 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer stopped a blue Ford Ranger pickup truck inside the campground. Upon speaking with the driver the officer noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside test was completed and the driver registered a fail on the device. The driver was arrested and transported to Exeter OPP Detachment for breath tests. He provided two samples of his breath; both were above the legal limit. Further checks revealed the driver was failing to comply with a condition of his probation order. A 45 -year old man from Bluewater has been charged with Drive Motor Vehicle — Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and Breach of Probation Order. He has a court date scheduled for the Ontario Court of Justice — Goderich on July 15, 2013.
