Lipstick Loop for Leni raises more than $28,500
Story:
On Saturday, June 15th, 50 woman
gathered in all shades of pink to walk
'The Lipstick Loop' in memory of an
incredibly classy, fun -loving and beau-
tiful lady, Len! Vermeulen. The event
was created not only to remember Lent;
the love she brought to so many, to keep
her spirit alive within us and reflect on
the impact she had on each one of us,
but to help those suffering from cancer
and bring them some financial assist-
ance at such a difficult bine.
Each participant was asked to raise a
minimum of $250 with all proceeds
going to the Gene Goodreau Patient
Assistance Fund at London I lealth Sci-
ences Centre. To date, the Lipstick
Loop has raised $28,500 with donations
still coming in. Every dollar of those
funds raised goes directly to the foun-
dation, because of the generosity of the
restaurants that participated,
"We tried to incorporate all of Lent's
favourite things into our walk and vis-
ited local venues to sample their best
offerings, with everything kindly being
donated by. the restaurants themselves,"
said Len's daughter Niki.
Participants we're asked to register in
the 'No Frill's extended parking lot'
where Mary Kay set up their pink vehi-
cles to go with the day's theme, and
gave out a cosmetics goody bag to each
participant.
"The day started with a 'kick-off'
The ladies of the Lipstick Loop
organized by Leeann Powers at Aunt
Gussie's with music provided by Brian
Dale and Pat Powers. 'It's Okay to Wine'
served a glass each of red and white
wine pairing them with a truffle to die
for," says Niki.
Their next stop was (t very personal
one at 'Its 'Thyme' with Jackie Sten-
house. At Leni's Favourite Chocolate
Stop, Jackie donated a goodie bag for
each lady and organized game's and
prizes.

F.I.N.E provided their well-known white wine
Sangria and Erryn's specialty cookies all served in
the afternoon sunshine on the patio.
From EI.N,E the ladies ventured over the bridge
to Paddington's for their incredible garlic muscles
(another favourite of Leni's) cider and egg rolls to
boot. "After all of this food we needed a way to get
to Smackwater Jack's. Of course the talented Josh
Vermeulen and Ryan Thompson would think to
build rickshaw's to surprise the ladies who had dif-
ficulty walking or needed a quick lift. Kyle and
Josh Vermeulen made several trips throughout the
day and were a huge hit with all of the ladies,"
explains Niki.
Snlackwater Jacks provided each lady with a
pink beverage, wings and nachos and a steam
whistle panel of judges for their al fresco twist
contest.
"'This is where we wanted to keep the ladies
guessing as to how we would get across the river.
Lee from Grand Bend Parasail had the solution -
he picked us up from the clock at Smackwater's
and took us across the river to the pier in his para-
sall bout."

The Growling Gator provided their awesome
signature 'The Pink Gator' and from there they
stopped at the Dairy Dip for each lady to have their
own ice cream cone. M the top of main street
Gables provided a fruity drink and an appetizer.
And then they meandered back down street to our
day's conclusion at 'The Sunset I louse' on their
beautiful back patio - Dave had sangria, fresh
spring rolls and a beautiful sunset view for all.
"As the ladies walked several carried buckets to
collect donations along the way. The generousity
of the locals and visitors to Gni helped us raise an
additional $850."
A special thank -you to the male volun-
teers: Tony Vermeulen (the best noun for the job to
stop traffic for us), Phil and Pat Poulin for making
sure all ladies were taken care of and got home
safely. 1)ave Ilium took some photos throughout
