The Great Lakes Storm 1913: A REMEMBRANCE — 2013
Commemorative Book Launch and Introduction of Original Songs
For the Great Storm of 1913 100th Year Remembrance
the (;LS191:1 Placating Committee is pleased to announce the official
hook launch for the commemorative book, A Centennial Tribute to the
Great Lukes Storm: 1913, by Paul Carroll.'Ihis volume is a testimonial to
mariners and ships lost in the White t lurrlcane of November, 1913. 'Ihe
book is published by the Great Lakes Storm of 1913 Remembrance
Committee. It includes a comprehensive, illustrated history of the
storm, the most devastating marine tragedy in the modern history of the
Great Lakes. More than 40 vessels affected by this storm are reviewed in
detail. 'the book includes more than 150 images, including colour plates,
Harps and tables.
The 181 -page book has been produced with financial assistance from
the County of 1luron Heritage Fund. Proceeds from book sales will sup-
port the creation of a permanent memorial for the Centenary Remem-
brance of the Great Storm, 1913. The memorial will be placed in the
Cobourg Street parkette, overlooking the harbour at the site of the
Ontario Historic Sites Board plaque for the Great Storm.
At the same time, a number of original songs, composed by Captain
David MacAdatn will be introduced. David has written these songs as
his personal tribute to the lost souls and ships in the Great Storm. Pro-
ceeds from the sale of (:1)s will support the centennial Remembrance
undertakings of the Committee. An official launch for the full CI) will be
scheduled at a later date.
Me production of the musical (a) has been supported by the Build-
ing Communities Through Arts & heritage Program - Department of
Canadian I leritage.
The event will be hosted by the 1luron County Museum 110 North
Street, Friday, June 28 with a 'Meet and Greet' at 7pm, followed by
Remarks from officials at 7:45pm and the Program Presentation at Hpm.
Ihe book launch and preview of the musical ballads will be presented in
a multi -media format. Admission is free - refreshments will be available.
Guests will be able to visit the marine gallery; and the museum will be

Grand Bend's pier last week before going to Bayfield on Saturday for ship tours
with Sail and Canvas. Cape Rescue Is stationed In Goderich.

Forest Library re -opens
The Forest library is open again after being closed 9 days for
renovations. New windows and carpeting were Installed In the
Library which was built In 1985. Here Librarian Sandy Burkhart
restocks shelves last Thursday to prepare for business once more.
