Lakeshore Advance
New signs, PARK HERE, welcome visitors to the
Grand Bend United Church's parking lot on Queen
Street. A donation in a receptacle is encouraged but
not necessary. 100% goes to assist area families who
need help with heat, water, food, medicine, accom-
modation, or unexpected bills. The Municipality of
Lambton Shores approved the project. Ray Hamil-
ton, Hamilton's Machine Shop, gave the church a
deal on the donation box. The new signs were
donated by Peter Halst from the House of Flags.
Peter Challen, Co -Chair of the Church's Council
says this project is an outgrowth of the congregation's
new directions. In January the congregation decided
to remain on Main Street and renovate rather than
build at a new site on Ontario Street. "The congrega-
tion wants to be amid the retail shops, French fries,
and commotion of downtown, he says.
he congregation is also journeying through a
ssage that can be believed with one's mind as well
as with one's heart. "We have all heard the story of
feeding thousands of people with a few fish and
loaves of bread. The miracle could either be caused
by supreme power or by one person who was
supremely motivated to share what little they had
which caused many more people to generously share
what they had so that everyone received lots. This
parking lot project turns the sunshine, tears and
laughter of everyday life, into help for folks in need
because motivated people choose to make it happen.
Local business man, Ben Bervoets - Four Seasons
Jewelry by Benjamin was the first donator to the
parking project, indicated he sees lots of people,
younger and older, contribute to the donation box,"
says Challen.
"Leave No One Behind" is the motto of the United
States Marines. This project and these new direc-
tions, according to Challen, continue to respect tradi-
tional views of Christianity and also welcome a more
understandable message.
