Lakeshore Advance
With less than two weeks until show
dine, the volunteer organizers of Grand
Bend's first Buskerfest are working to get
all the details in place.
Buskerfest will take place on June 22nd
and 23rd with the fun beginning at 1:15pin
in the afternoon and continuing through
the day and evening until around 9pm.
Buskers will be performing in five desig-
nated locations: be3ide Sea Jewels on
Main Street, the Eiber Street parking lot on
Main Street, the Beach House and Con-
cession area, the gazebo by the pier and at
the Grand Bend Art Centre on River Road.
Buskers range from musicians to magi -
ns. Nic Swales is a singer songwriter
m Sarnia whose career is on the rise.
"Nic Swales is one of those songwriters
and guitarists you need to keep your eye
on in the next little while. with the release
of his new recording bohemian summer
nic is poised to take his deserved rightful
place on the rich tapestry that is the Cana-
dian independent music scene" says
Glenn lbp Meisner, Music Producer CBC
Maritimes. Terry'Ihylor is one half of the
popular folk group "Gone Wrong". The
group's modern folk sound is dedicated to
preserving Canada's rich folk history.
Based in Windsor, Ontario, the group
plays all over Ontario and Michigan. Terry
will be bringing his solo act to Buskerfest.
Josh Geddis needs little introduction In
this area. A popular music teacher at St
Anne's high school in Clinton, Josh has
shared the stage with the likes of Joel Plas-
kett, Serena Ryder, Jason Collett, John
Mann (of Spirit of the West), Billy the Kid
and many more. Singer songwriter and
lndie recording artist Alex Tintinilli is
young blues artist from the Kitchener area.
Since releasing his debut blues album,
Nothing Tb Lose, in 2007 at age 14, he has
received local, national and international
recognition including world-wide radio
airplay in over 60 countries. Originally
referred to as the young, "blues guitar
whiz'; Alex Tintinalli has since grown to
become a passionate vocalist and talented
song -writer in a style of modern music all
his own. Michael Trudgen is a self-taught
guitar player from London Ontario. He
began playing at the age of 12, and claims
he hasn't put the guitar down since! Nis
main influence is Don Ross, but he enjoys
many different styles and genres of music,
and this shows in his song writing. His
music is described as original, and full of
energy and life. There are many more fine
musicans on the bill, but not all the busk-
ers are musicians. Fraser Frase is a com-
edy entertainer who loves to interact with
people. He has performed across Canada
bringing smiles and laughter everywhere
he goes. 'Ibo many visits to the Principal's
office has lead Fraser Frase to a career as
an entertainer for over fifteen years.
ChalkMaster Dave will be creating some
amazing street art at the River Road Art
Centre. He can usually be found creating
highly artistic chalk illusions at Yonge and
Dundas in Toronto. This is a fantastic
opportunity to see an artist of this caliber
right here in Grand Bend. Singer song-
writer Greg Gallelo has been delighting
Grand Bend audiences for many sum-
mers. He will be performing with an

Whether they are Kombis or Microbus types, these VWs came to the Bend as a
group from Brantford, Paris, Woodstock, London, Fordwich and surrounding areas.
They get together every year on the May long weekend and tour to Grand Bend to
drive the strip. They head south to Grogs in Port Franks and on to Kettle Point Beach
for pictures and fun. "A good family and friends day".
aerialist at the Beach I louse on the
waterfront. This promises to be a
show you won't soon forget. There
are many more fine artists on the
schedule for the weekend, which
is constantly being updated and
posted on the Buskerfest website
at www.grandbendbuskerfest.ca.
The organizers, who are all volun-
teers, are very pleased with
number of quality performers who
are willing to conte, at their own
expense, to busk in Grand Bend.
"None of the lx!rfonners are being
paid, so we hope that audiences
will show their appreciation when
the hats get passed around" says
organizer Glen Baillie. The event is
being supported by the new Crea-
tive County Cultural award grant.
The grant will help cover some of
the expenses for advertising the
event, printing the posters, etc.
Members of Grand Bend's busi-
ness community have been very
generous in its support of the event
as well. The Bluewater Motel,
Colonial hotel, Oakwood and
Resort and Pinedale Motor Inn,
have all offered free hospitality for
out of town buskers. "This is really
appreciated, especially on a busy
early summer weekend" says
organizer Janette Baillie. Many
area restaurants have donated
vouchers to keep the buskers fed
and watered throughout the week-
end, including the Cheryl Ann, the
Dairy Dip, Denny's Drive-in,
Gino's Deli, Grandpa Jimmy's
Scottish Bakery, The Growling
Gator, Purdy's, The School House
Restaurant and SmackWater Jack's.
Other businesses such as Archie's,
Sea Jewels and The Tenderspot are
donating parking spaces, hydro
etc. Donations are still being
accepted. Contact the committee
