Lynda HINman•R.pby t eknehorn Advnncn Every Friday a group of local to Grand Bend guys meet for breakfast at the Colonial. Last week was a little different as they met to celebrate Dick Clark's 95th birthday. My Life as a Prisoner of War - a small book, is a reminder in print for Richard (Dick) Clark from September 22, 1943 until he went home 1945. He doesn't need the book though to remind him of his life In WWII. Clark married his long-time sweetheart Jean in 1945. He immigrated to Canada In 1951, arriving by boat. When he got to London, Ontario, his destination, he saw a man painting a telephone kiosk and asked If they wore hiring. Within a few minutes his foreman arrived and It was learned the foreman had been a POW in Stalag 48. Within two hours of Clark's landing In London, he had a Job. The Clarks raised a family of four children, two boys and two girls, in London Ontario and In later years vacationed In Grand Bond at the Green Haven Trailer Park. Jean died in 2004. Clark now lives In Grand Cove Estates. At his party last week wore his Friday morning breakfast friends (Back left side) Peter, Terry, Norm Harris, Tony Kaiser, Ken Bentley, birthday boy Dick Clark, (Back Right side) Ken Vankoughnett, Garry Dyke, Frank Loscombe, Brian Williamson, Craig Scott and Gerhard Vink.
