Last week the Dashwood Fireman's Association received a grant from the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Provincial Command Branches and Ladies Auxiliaries Charitable Foundation towards the purchase of one thermal Imaging unit. This piece of equipment costs about S15,000 and with the help of fundraisers and now this $6,500, the department was able to purchase the unit. Thermography is the use of an infrared imaging and measurement camera to see and measure thermal energy emitted from an object. "Infrared allows us to see what our eyes cannot," said Hoffman adding these units are becoming more widespread in efforts to help locate downed fire fighters or other victims within burning structures. "This is so Important for the public and officer safety," he said.
