Lynda Hillman-Rapley OMIAgency With so many local issues, it is diffi- cult to figure out what tier of govern- ment is responsible for what concern. Canadian politics is divided into three, sometimes four levels of govern- ment. With four tiers, federal, provin- cial, county and municipal in many cases taxpayers don't really know who does what. With top issues of the day being san- itary sewers, wind turbines, cell towers and small business- the rate payers don't know who to he marl it, who to bla nw, who to thank. 'Illy Federal Government is responsi- ble for issues that concern the country as a whole. Defense, criminal law, employment insurance, postal service, census, copyrights, trade regulation, external relations, money and banking, transportation, citizenship, an Indian affairs. The leader, Stephen Harper is the Prime Minister, and our numbers of parliament (MP) are Bev Shipley in Lampton Kent Middlesex and lien Lobb in Iluron Bruce. The party in power now is Conservative and both these members are conservative. The Provincial/'Territorial govern- ment is responsible for ministries such as Aboriginal Affairs, 1 lealth and Long - Term (:are, and Education; the province looks after property and civil rights, administration of justice, natural resources and the environment, and welfare. Some responsibilities are shared between both provincial/terri- torial and federal government.'1he Pre- mier, presently Kathleen Wynne is the person who leads the provincial/terri- torial government. Our Iocal Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) are Monte McNaughton in Lampton Kent Middlesex and Lisa Thompson In 1 luron Bruce. 'Ihe party in power pres- ently is Liberal and both of these mem- bers are the opposition -Conservative. 'Ihe boundaries of a county usually, but not always, are made up of town- ships or other municipal corporations.
