season for rental owners

'IIle summer season is fast approaching
and the Short Term Rental Accommoda-
tion committee has had their last meeting
citing successful results. A draft letter,
which, once approved by council will go to
property owners in Plan 24 -(rand Bend
proper.
At the March Nth meeting Councilor
Martin Underwood said the committee
'O,ad been very successful in Meeting
its mandate to "research and report to
Council 00 options for regulating Short
'Perm Rental Accommodations': 'the initia-
tives started will continue on, and he felt
that the committee could he disbanded at
this time. It WaS ASO discussed that the

to determine issues and act as a conduit to
Council. 'the committee agreed.
They reviewed the draft letter to resi-
dents, which outlines the fact that prop-
erty owners are responsible for (he behav-
ior at' their guests. It was recommended that
certain sections of the letter he bolded and
that for 2013, the letter is sent to the Plan
24 residents only. The letter was coaling
hack to council for approval 011 Monday.
The letter details by- laws that were
passed for the protection of persons and
property within the community. 'Ihese by-
laws deal with items such as Property
Standards, 'l'idy Yards, Noise, Fence, Park-
ing, Open Air Burning, Fireworks, Dunlp-
sters, and Dogs. The By- laws regulate
items such as the size, location and time
for "open ah' burning': restricts Moises that
are "likely to disturb residents" at any time
of the day, and regulates when fireworks
can he purchased or discharged. (Copies

These by-laws were passe(, to establish
community standards for both aesthetics

important in areas of high density such as
the older section of Grand Bend.
"111 a tourist area, such as Grand Bend,
there are many visitors to our area and vis-
itors are required to adhere to the regula-
tions as well. If you are renting or loaning
your property to others, as the property
owner, you are responsible for behavior of
your guests, and could he charged under
the by-laws as well as your guests. If you
need to contact a by-law officer, the office
number (May September) is 519-238-
5246, or contact the municipal office at
519-238-8461.
With respect to parking, overnight
parking on town streets between the hours
of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. is prohibited,
and violators are subject to a fine of 40.00
(reduced to $ 35.00 if paid within 7 days)
and can be towed. If you have diffi-
culty accommodating parking on your
property, each property owner in (rand
Bend is entitled to purchase 2 parking
passes at 0 cost of $ 30.00 each which will
allow overnight parking on the shoulder of
any street that is not designated as "00
parking". 'I'hl'St' passes are available by

There is also additional parking for
guests 00 a short -tern) basis and overnight
parking is available behind the (rand
Bend legion at a cost of $ 10.00 per vehicle
per night. Passes are available from the By-
law Enforcement Officers at the office at
the O.P.P. Station, on Main Street or by
calling 519-238-5246. Seasonal parking
passes are available for the Midtown Lot,
Ontario Street Lot, King Street Lot and for
the east side of the North Beach Lot. 'these

Denny's Drive -In
Feeding Grand Bend
for 25 years

Denny's Drive -In in Grand Bend is a tra-
dition. Famous for its homemade fries, the
re'staurant's roots run deep in the Grand
Bend community.
Dennis Mathers, the original "Denny„
opened his doors for business on Highway
21 in Murch 1988, Before that, the highway
21 business was Dairy Jacks and before that
it was the home of Mary Bell Dairies.
The Mathers family opened the Cheryl
Ann, on (rani Bend's strip in 1955 when
Dennis was nine years old. His mother
selected the name from the tugboat Cheryl
Ann, 111 the adventure series Waterfront
(1954-56). After 14 years in business the very
popular burger spot was sold to Dennis and
his wife Brenda. They operated the busy
place for 111 more year's.
